  • Quiet and spacious tree-lined site above Brixham in Devon
  • Three minutes' drive to Brixham; Berry Head coastal walks from site
  • Splashdown Quaywest 15 minutes; Paignton Zoo 20 minutes; Dartmouth 40
Heavenly Devon views are around you at this super spot looking down over Brixham. Estate agents might call it a dual aspect view. At Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site they just call it their own special corner of Devon. Sitting on the Berry Head peninsula, this lush green tree-lined site has Brixham harbour on one side, peaceful St. Mary’s Bay on the other. It’s a smart site with a laundry, hot showers and disabled bathrooms, as well as an on-site bar (closed on Mondays) for refreshments. Regulars rave about the walk down into Brixham from the site; a 15-minute descent with the sea gulls, sea breezes and sea views getting ever closer. (They also point out it’s uphill on the way back; in a car, the trip’s about three minutes.) Brixham’s a handsome harbour town that's great for fresh fish, as the boats unload here all day. To see a slightly older vessel, step aboard the Golden Hind, a replica of the craft Sir Francis Drake circled the globe in 450 years ago and still awash with history. You can clock some miles up yourselves in this part of the Devon coast, on foot or by car. A walk round the Berry Head nature reserve will reward the most reluctant hikers, with huge views, a Napoleonic fort and cliffs alive with adders, guillemots and peregrine falcons. Hike round the headland, then take the path down to St. Mary’s Bay for a well-earned paddle.

What customers say

A friendly, well-kept campsite with clean facilities, a short walk to Brixham harbour and coastal paths. On-site bar & snack shack are popular. Most enjoy the location & staff, though some noted limited WiFi & steep walks back from town. A few mentioned pitch size & occasional facility cleanliness.

Liked Friendly staff very helpful. Good facilities. It was a very busy time of the year for the site but the staff always had time for you. I enjoyed the bar and entertainment on offer. We had a good evening listening to the singer who sang a good range of songs. Food was good from the snack shack especially the pizzas.

The toilet block was cleaned regularly however at such a busy time you can forgive them if at times it wasn't continually spotless but it was always adequate in my opinion. Despite a sites best efforts you will always get some who cant be respecful and leave things leave as they found them.

Be aware that at this time of year (August) it's not going to peace and quiet. This is a family site with children and families enjoying themselves however everybody respected the 10pm rule regarding noise. I had no trouble sleeping.

Disliked The pitches are to close together but it's a minor criticism.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Closeness to town which was within walking distance. Shower and wash facilities good. Fridges very useful, even space for food. Washing and drying facilities good too. WiFi good.

Disliked Close proximity of other pitches. The site felt crowded compared with other sites visited.

Disliked Could do with more showers
Dogs not allowed inside pub

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to send us feedback we welcome so we may improve.
We do have 15 showers but unfortunately there does seem to be 'rush hours' for facilities.
On the matter of dogs not being allowed in the bar. This is not because we dislike dogs quite the opposite. But if you imagine how many dogs come with their families on holiday, if all guests bought their dogs into the bar it would be difficult for staff as well as guests to walk freely getting drinks and tidying tables. Our outside seating area has dog water bowls and we feel far more suited for all our furry friends.

Shepherd's hut

Liked Site was clean and tidy. Food available on site was very well priced and very nice. The bar had entertainment on one of the nights we were there which was such a fun evening. Great location for coastal path walks. Hut was plenty big enough for us, 2 adults. Lots of storage space. Lovely decking area to sit out on. Next to camping field but I liked not being completely separated. Staff were amazing

Disliked Hut had everything you could need but no bin understandable due to space saving. Used a carrier bag so no problems. Also no washing up liquid but tea towel and sponge were there. We had zero phone signal whilst in the hut. No issues at all for us just heads up.

Liked Location - close to Brixham Harbour.
Lovely lady in reception was so friendly and helpful.
Foodshack - amazing pizzas and breakfast wraps.
Washrooms were clean but no plugs for the sinks.
Laundry room but one of the washers was out or order.
There was a fridge/freezer and stand alone freezer but these were filthy.

Disliked This isn't the campsite for families although it's advertised as family friendly. My children were told rudely that ball games were not allowed by the warden. However, there were numerous occasions there was other children playing ball games. The warden took a disliking to us and I found him to be rude and abrupt. As the holiday continued we noticed how the site is full of signs of what you can't do. I didn't like this and it's not the sort of thing I expect from a family friendly campsite. After camping for all my life I have never come across a site like this.
Onsite wifi was shocking and when reported, all we got was, "welcome to Brixham"

Local attractions

Many of the towns on the coast serve up a cracking cocktail of inland attraction and nearby beach, Dartmouth (40 minutes’ drive) being a good example. The 14th-century castle has estuary views and grisly history for those who like it; railway buffs can catch the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam line for a nostalgic tour of the surrounds and link up with a boat trip on the River Dart as well. Adjacent to the town, Blackpool Sands beach is sandy and safe for families, and adventurous sorts can go sea-kayaking. Further off, Hope Cove (an hour) has the perfect combination of sand for burying your siblings in and rock pools for exploring. If you do want a break from coastal activities, Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) has exotic residents in six different habitats; you can visit each one on the Jungle Express Train. Plymouth (an hour) is a popular port of call for its National Marine Aquarium and indoor ski slopes. For watery fun away from the beaches meanwhile, Splashdown Quay West (15 minutes) is an aqua park packed with flumes and slides and things to get wet in, and there are water rides, interactive dinosaurs and a zoo farm menagerie at Woodlands Adventure Park (45 minutes).
