  • Peaceful site with sea views a five-minute drive from Westward Ho!
  • South West Coast Path 20 minutes’ walk; Bideford 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; children’s playground; well-stocked farm shop
Picture the scene: you step out of your accommodation and are greeted by expansive sea views stretching all the way to Lundy Island. Not a bad holiday scenario, right? Well, hold that thought and head to Westacott Farm Camping, a peaceful site on the coast of North Devon. The coast is not just a distant mirage here: you’re only about 20 minutes’ walk from the South West Coast Path, and from there you can scramble down to Peppercombe Beach, a long stretch of shingle. If you have your dog with you (a welcome guest, but do keep it on a lead at all times while on site), this is the place to take it for a walk. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of seals and dolphins; if not, you should still see plenty of colourful butterflies and wildflowers. If you prefer sand to pebbles, head to Westward Ho! Beach (15 minutes’ drive). There will be more people here, but there are also more services, including lifeguards, public toilets and watersports equipment rentals – from paddleboards to surfs; most places also run lessons for beginners. After a long day at the seaside, leave the kids in the playground and start gathering dinner provisions. The on-site farm shop stocks local sausages, burgers, bacon, free-range eggs and a small range of groceries – in short, all you need to knock up a simple meal. For anything else, it’s a short drive to the supermarkets (five minutes across the A39); better still, get someone else to do the cooking and visit the nearest pub (five minutes or a leisurely half-hour walk) in Abbotsham.

This roomy, welcoming spot has great, clean facilities, incl. private shower stalls. Guests rave about the amazing sea views, the owners' warm reception, and its handy location for coast walks & local sights. Metered electricity is seen as fair. Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had a great stay at Westacott Farm camping - we found it easily from the main road and on arrival saw our names on the board welcoming us to the campsite. We could choose our own pitch which was nice - almost too much space to choose from! We settled on the Atlantic View field, giving us amazing views of the ocean and huge space for the children to play, knowing it was a little further from the facilities wasn’t a problem for us. The owners were friendly and extremely helpful giving us advice on local areas and activities. We were particularly impressed with the washing up facilities, always available, under cover and clean. The toilet and shower facilities were also excellent, very clean and tidy and well looked after. There were signs saying these could be busy during peak times however we found there was always one available when required. The campsite seemed to be busy with lots of families however there was always access to facilities and lots of space for us, we didn’t feel crowded at all and the fields were very quiet and peaceful. Lovely stay in a beautiful part of the country - thank you!

Disliked Nothing about the campsite! The weather was windier than we anticipated but think we were perhaps naive about the wind being so close to the sea, just something to be aware of! 😊

From the manager: Thank you Michael for your lovely review and I'm so pleased you had a lovely time with us. Unfortunately when you have a lovely view close to the sea the wind sneaks in too!

We look forward to seeing you another time.

Thank you.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely site. Well signed and easy to find. A friendly welcome on arrival.
Seemed to be a busy site. But didn’t feel cramped and didn’t need to wait for toilets or showers.
Play area with swings slide and even football posts! A handy little shop and a washing up room with plenty of freezer space.
We loved the site and the lovely views and walks. The location was perfect for us. We will definitely book again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Showers and toilets were really modern and kept very clean. The fields were spacious and didn’t feel like we were all camping on top of each other. Reception was lovely, little shop and Bridget was so friendly and welcoming. Really close to local supermarkets and decent dog friendly beaches. Wasn’t aware there was WiFi hence 1 star rating as we didn’t use it so no idea if it was good

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The welcome we received was great :) Very handy to drive to local towns and beaches and just seconds off the A39. Very large pitches, electric metered so you are only charged what you use.

From the manager: Many thanks for the review of our campsite. I'm sorry that you thought our facililties weren't up to your cleanliness standard. All our facilities are cleaned very thoroughly every day & sometimes twice a day. We rely on campers to keep them clean after they use them, unfortunately we aren't able to go behind every camper.
We look forward to seeing you next time, best wishes.

Local attractions

Whether the kids are into fun attractions or animals, The BIG Sheep (five minutes’ drive) will deliver. As well as bottle-feeding lambs and handling fluffy chicks, they can ride a swan pedalo on the lake or take the miniature train through the grounds; older kids might prefer the thrills of the roller coaster. From Bideford (10 minutes), a boat sails along the River Torridge and onwards to Lundy Island, whose rugged cliffs shelter puffins and other seabirds. On your return, check out the riverfront statue dedicated to Tarka the Otter, then cross the Old Bideford Bridge to the Bideford Railway Heritage Centre. Themed areas at RHS Garden Rosemoor (25 minutes), in Torrington, include the vibrant Rose and Hot gardens, and the Croquet Lawn, lined with plants from the Mediterranean and the southern hemisphere. Stay in Torrington to visit the Dartington Crystal factory and watch glass-blowers at work.
