The electric pitches

  • Family-friendly site on a farm surrounded by green Devon countryside
  • Westward Ho! beach 20 minutes’ drive; Exmoor National Park 55 minutes
  • Dog-friendly site with dedicated exercise area; easy access from A39
With views that extend as far as Dartmoor National Park, Ashcroft Farm is a small, dog-friendly site on a smallholding surrounded by the stunning countryside of north Devon. The surrounding fields are alive with wildlife, and birds of prey like barn owls and kestrels can frequently be spotted hunting overhead. The hedgerows, meanwhile, burst into bloom in spring and early summer, while wild songbirds will serenade you at dawn and dusk throughout the year. The site also has very low levels of light pollution, meaning that on cloudless evenings the night skies here are studded with stars. All in all, the camping area is around two acres, with the pitches situated around the border of the field, which gives kids plenty of space to play. This is a pet-friendly campsite that appreciates the importance of including the canine members of your family on camping trips. Because of that, you are welcome to build fencing around your unit, and although dogs need to be kept on a lead or tether around the site, a large field is on hand where they can run free under their owners’ supervision. Although very much in a rural location, this site is still easily accessible, as it's roughly two miles from the A39. The village of Woolfardisworthy (or Woolsery, to use its shorter name) is just over a mile away (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk) and is home to a Norman church, a shop and a pub.

What customers say

Ashcroft Farm is lauded for its serene, scenic rural setting. Campers rave about the quiet ambiance and picturesque views. Sites are spacious and tidy. Washrooms are exceptionally clean with plenty of hot water. The popular dog field is a highlight. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Great base for exploring North Devon/Cornwall. Approach roads can be narrow. Facilities may seem dated but are spotless.

Liked Just back from a brilliant few nights at Ashcroft Farm and we cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a peaceful, well kept site tucked away in gorgeous North Devon countryside, with sweeping views that stretch for miles. The pitches are huge and generously spaced, so it never felt crowded, and the middle of the field is left clear which is perfect for kids to run around.

The facilities were spotless. The shower block is clean and modern with plenty of hot water, and there is a proper washing up area too. The owner could not have been more welcoming or helpful, always on hand but never in the way.

It is wonderfully dark at night with no light pollution, so the stars were incredible. Great base for exploring the area too. We will definitely be back.

Primitive grass campsite (sloping)

Liked nice tidy campsite, lovely and quiet, off the beaten track 20 mins walk to the village which has a chippy, a pub/restaurant. and the best bit a milk vending machine that does flavoured milk shakes. site has a couple of toilets and showers and also a washing machine and fridge.

Disliked although the toilets / shower were clean they are a bit dated,
we did pitch up in slightly the wrong place as Vicky hadn't put our name up on a pitch

Liked Great value for Money, clean and lovely space to chill out in the van. Loved that they recycle as well 😀
Also, really simple straight forward way to clear your bill without being delayed by meeting at a gate etc.

Keep going down the road from Ashcroft farm building as it’s about 1K up the road from where the postcode takes you too. Didn’t get the what three words as they will get lost in the thread.

Liked Location, great clean toilets and hot showers, spacious pitch, not crowded.
Woolsery 24hr milk vending machine, cracking milkshakes as well, Farmers Arms in the local village does amazing food, it’s linked to the shop which is completely not what you expect, it’s like a miniature Waitrose but with additional local produce. Just down the road at bucks cross there is the Bake shed, which looks like one of those things to buy eggs from but is an amazing mini bakery, deffo worth seeking out. The local coast has loads of places to walk and visit.

Disliked Nothing, it was perfect for us.

Local attractions

The Milky Way Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) has both outdoor and indoor attractions, which makes it a great option for days when you can’t quite work out what the weather has in store. Highlights include a ninja obstacle course, enormous bouncing pillows and a couple of roller coasters. There are also gentle rides for younger children, plus birds of prey displays. Some of the best beaches of the north Devon coast are within a short driving distance of the site. Buck’s Mills (10 minutes) is known for its rockpools and for the waterfall tumbling down a rugged cliff, while Westward Ho! beach (20 minutes), a vast expanse of sand fringed by a ridge of pebbles, is popular with surfers. Keen hikers will not want to miss a day exploring Exmoor National Park (55 minutes), where they can walk through such diverse landscapes as moorlands and woodlands, as well as dramatic coastal paths. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife, from red deer to the resident animal gardeners, the grazing Exmoor ponies.
