  • Adults-only campsite with Carbis Bay views in lively West Cornwall
  • South West Coast Path a 10-minute walk; 10 minutes’ drive to St Ives
  • Hot showers on site; near Tate St Ives, shops, pubs and sports beaches
Treenook Farm offers adults-only wild camping on a small, family-run farm with fab views to Carbis Bay in West Cornwall. Here you have the very best of locations, close to beaches for surfers, even closer to the spectacular art galleries of St Ives, and a 10-minute walk to the South West Coast Path for overnighting hikers. There’s plenty more to see and do round and about too. The cute seaside town of Marazion (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with arty galleries and hip shops, has a sandy beach and – most importantly – gives you access (on foot or by boat, depending on tides) to St Michael’s Mount, a rocky outcrop topped by a mighty castle open for tours. If it’s warm enough (this is England after all) you can swim (or at least paddle) in the sea at Mount’s Bay (15 minutes) and Carbis Bay (five minutes), where hardier souls can get dry-suited up for windsurfing and paddleboarding adventures. You can hire all the gear and take lessons for all skill levels too. While this site has no electricity, a very, very major bonus is the gas-powered shower to warm you up after a dip in the sea. You can pick up supplies at local stores to grill on the barbecue, and if you change your mind about cooking, no worries – just head for a local pub for a pint of cider and a Cornish pasty.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Adults only so was quiet. View wasn’t too bad.

Disliked: Nobody there to check we’d arrived and say hi, we went there, pitched up and then left the following morning with nobody knowing we’d even been there so could have just stayed there for free and the owner would have been none the wiser!
Couldn’t park the car by our pitch, had to take it back down to a little car park area, although again nobody would have known if we had just left it by our pitch.
No campfires allowed. Very basic toilet and shower block. One toilet and two showers for the whole campsite. Didn’t use the shower so can’t comment on that.
One small rubbish bin, no recycling bins.

From the manager: We meet people who call when they arrive, this is a very small site only 6 pitches, so 2 toilets and a shower is suitable we keep the cars close but not with the tents to avoid cars driving in and disturbing people that may be resting / sleeping.

The campsite in a great spot not far from the coastal path…

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The campsite in a great spot not far from the coastal path and the incredible Porth Kidney Sands. The walk to St Ives is also recommended.

The site has proper flushing toilets with sinks and a shower.

Disliked: It isn’t really possible to find fault with this campsite. It is mostly quiet. although it is just off the main road so there is the sound of traffic in the distance, but isn’t to obtrusive. If anything the sound of those campers who stay up through the chatting is likely to be more obtrusive.

There was only one shower.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful camp site, clean, tidy and just want you want. Quiet, away from the main road so lovely and peaceful.

Disliked: Nothing about the site, it was ideal. We had some very noisy neighbours, we understand that the hut you stayed in was lovely, but please show your appreciation quietly at 3 in the morning!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Easy to find, well marked pitches, simple check in, standard campsite set up and rules etc.

Disliked: Would have been helpful to leave cars beside tent overnight. Toilet doors tricky to close. As the roads were wet it seemed pretty loud, but nothing earplugs didn’t solve.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Nice clean and tidy camp site, in a good location, easy to walk to Carbis bay to the beach or to catch the train to St Ives.

We also walked to Hayle which is also very nice and a lot quieter than St Ives with a great beach and I would recommend LULU crab shack for some were to eat just before the beach.

All in all great break and will definitely stay here again.

Disliked: None.

From the manager: HI we would confirm that the shower does have hot water, but the outside taps are only cold water taps.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We stayed here for 1 night on our trip around Cornwall and it had everything we needed. A quiet site with toilets and showers. The site itself is set up on a hill but the pitches are nice and flat. It did get a bit windy at night but you can’t book the weather. The owner Josie did stop by and she was dry friendly and welcoming. Because it’s a small site you do have to leave your car down in the car park which isn’t far and you can understand why the owner has done this when you arrive you don’t want cars blocking the amazing views from your tent.

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Adults only aspect. Plenty of space around pitches. Very good size toilet/shower cubicles which were also clean and had lights. Great location for accessing the coast path, nearby beach and St Ives on foot.

Disliked: Road noise.
