  • Family-run campsite in the small village of Gwithian
  • Under a mile from the South West Coast Path; Hayle four miles
  • Utility corner with charging facilities and a communal fridge
It's got sand, it's got a pub, it's got rockpools and it's got surfing – all in all, Gwithian's a pretty groovy spot. Set in a quiet part of the village under a mile from the beach and the South West Coast Path, Prosper House Camping is a family-run campsite close to some of the best bits of Cornwall's north coast. Prosper House Camping is a laidback, no-frills site, where a small number of pitches creates a chilled, intimate atmosphere. Toilets and hot showers are provided, as well as a small utilities corner with handy charging facilities and a communal fridge that guests are free to use. Although the views here look out over surrounding farmland, Prosper House Camping is under 100 feet from the village pub and 20 minutes' walk from two popular seaside cafés. There's decent public transport here too, with buses that can get you into Hayle in roughly 20 minutes for when you need a supermarket, railway station or just fancy a change of scene. Since opening in 2016, Prosper House Camping has had lots of satisfied customers, with some guests coming back year after year. If you like old-style camping in peaceful grounds where the kids can play freely and you can huddle around a firepit in the evening, this could be the place for you.

What customers say

This small, quiet campsite offers spacious, semi-private sites with picnic tables. Guests love its great location, a short walk from Gwithian beach and near a pub. Amenities include clean, hot showers in individual huts and basic washrooms. The site's "back to basics" charm, friendly chickens, and relaxing vibe are a hit. Some minor issues, like a temperamental shower and occasional lack of hot water for dishes, were mentioned, along with limited cell service. Management has addressed concerns about washroom cleanliness and availability.

From the manager: Sorry you had a negative experience. I'm struggling to recognise the issues you allude to as the loos and bins are checked twice daily. Occasionally there is a problem, and as we live on site, if people mention any issues to us we can resolve them immediately. During the 24 hours that you were on site, neither yourself, nor any other campers brought any issues to our attention, which seems odd if there were no loo roll available! I have increased our checks of the facilities to three times daily, which is our standard during school holiday periods anyway, but am still surprised to hear you had an issue, especially as all was fine when I cleaned them in the morning.

Liked Great basic camping with fully functional rustic facilities in a super location. Sadly the site is low on phone signal for my provider but the charging was great

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Location is great...next to pub, short walk across dunes to Gwithian beach and near Hayle for supplies.
Small site (16 pitches). Quiet. Lovely big pitches with bench table each. Semi private with hedges. Ours was no 7, at top end...fab! Level too.
2 good showers, in individual wooden huts...good heat and power. 2 toilets in wooden huts too... good but 1 not available after 1 night but we had our own so we were ok. Chickens scratching around...lovely. would definitely return.

From the manager: Thanks for your lovely review, it's much appreciated. Glad you had a good time. Sorry about the loo - my husband was away so mending the flush took me a bit longer than it would have taken him!

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Rustic

Disliked Shame 1 of the toilet doors and 1 of the shower doors didn’t close and no hot water for washing up

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Lynn,

thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I've looked at the doors a few times since and can't see an issue. I wonder whether it was the heat or the rain that made the door swell? We try to make it clear on our website that we don't have piped hot water for washing up. Most of our guests just use the provided kettle to get hot water - unfortunately due to the rustic nature of the site we can't provide hot water there without getting another gas burner.

Cheers,

Ruth

Liked The site was well maintained and had lovely big pitches. The showers and toilets were clean and shower temperature was perfect.

Disliked Road was noisy with speeding cars in the evening. Obviously not the sites fault. No WiFi but nice to get away from it all.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (pet friendly)

Liked The size of the pitch, location was great for coast path, access to beach, bus stop for 14 and 18 to get to different places without moving the campervan, lovely local pub. Freezer space for ice packs and lovely hot shower, only tried the left one based on the previous reviews.

Disliked A few gaps around the toilet and shower doors making them not entirely private, but ppl didn't tend to loitre once they knew someone was in there.
Didn't bother us, but some ppl may be disappointed with lack of phone signal & no wifi.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Fantastic little campsite which had a great community feel. It was also very close to the beach, surfing, restaurants and next to a pub. We really enjoyed our stay at this campsite and would definitely return.

Disliked Disliked nothing. However, it could be useful to install a road mirror adjacent to the campsite entrance as it's quite a tight blind spot when pulling out.
