Penhallow Campsite: Bell tent and kitchen

General

  • Spacious bell tents at a family-run glampsite in Mount Hawke
  • A 10-minute drive from Chapel Porth beach and Trevaunance Cove
  • Well-equipped kitchen hut and picnic table for each tent

Comfy stays in the Cornwall countryside – and close to the coastline too? Bank on that sort break at the spacious, family-run Penhallow Campsite. On the edge of the village of Mount Hawke and 15 minutes’ drive from Truro, this glampsite has a rather delicious selection of scenic walks or bike rides locally…

Or you could take the 10-minute drive up to the north Cornwall coast for strolls on the South West Coast Path and beach days at Porthtowan or Chapel Porth. Having the village centre 10 minutes’ walk away is pretty convenient too – it’s easy to wander on down to the café, convenience store or bus stop easily enough (and there’s an excellent skate park there too).

Back at base, you’ll be staying in spacious and well-furnished bell tents with space for two adults and two children (in a full-size double bed and two futon mattresses). You’ll need to bring along bedding and towels, but much else is provided – including rugs to keep things cosy underfoot.

Alfresco dinners (with gorgeous rural views) are all part of the attraction here, and they should be easy enough to sort out as each tent has its own little kitchen hut next door. It’s packed full of handy kit including a fridge, a kettle, a two-ring gas hob and all sorts of pots, pans and plates; once you’ve created your meal, take it out and serve up on the picnic table just outside.

Shared toilet and shower facilities are close to the tents, and there’s also a play area where kids can have a bit of a run about.

Please note

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

We booked Penhallow very last minute and we're so glad we did. We travelled down as a family of four, with our six year old and six month old baby.

From the moment we booked, until the moment we left, the level of service we received was amazing. Claire was incredibly attentive and the communication was brilliant.

Claire ensured she was waiting at the campsite for our arrival, so she could provide us with a familiarisation on our tent / kitchenette, she answered all our questions and provided plenty of information.

The facilities are always kept very clean, people on the camp site are very respectful and ensure the communal facilities are left exactly how they were found.

The tents are ideal if you're looking to break yourself in gently to camping or just like the convenience of having everything ready for you. The kitchenette is also well equipped to knock up some culinary delights.

All in all, a five star plus review, this is our second time glamping and we will certainly be returning to Penhallow for a third.

Thank you for making our stay perfect.

    Everything!
The site was lovely, perfect for our children who made lots of new friends!
The fully equipped kitchen was amazing, almost didn't feel as though we were camping, having electrical sockets in the bell tents was also a nice suprise!
Claire was more than accommodating whilst there, always beautifully clean facilities and never empty of anything you'd need!
Our children loved this site, the beds were very comfortable and having a firepit provided was a bonus!
There is nothing we didn't like and I cant wait to ask my family back with us next year to experience it!

    Disliked:

As mentioned by others, the shower water going her and cold, not drastically mind! And only noticed it was when another person in the block used other water facilities. Didn't ruin anything for us though!

Safe environment for my children to run free in, they made lots of new friends during our stay. Great location for getting around Cornwall. The accommodation was clean and all utensils were provided, we only needed to bring bedding and food. The host was attentive and able to answer any questions. Logs were purchased from the camp with daily for ease, the team were friendly and professional. Site was cleaned twice daily. Defiantly stay again!

    Disliked:

the only problem we found on this site was showering. One minute they were hot and then freezing but the team were doing everything they could to recterfy this issue.

Me, my husband and children (6) (9) stayed for 4 nights and we had a great time and would definitely come again.

Right from the start Claire and all the way through made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much bother. Considering you could see how hard she worked it's amazing how attentive and friendly she was.

One of the hardest things to contend with camping is keeping the children entertained/safe and relax at the same time. The camp is very safe and with small play equipment in the middle was a perfect addition because you can see them playing from your tent. We spent the days off site but in the morning and evening this was great.

The site was perfect because it meant you didn't have to worry too much about where the children where and there isn't lots of people to contend with. The children met some friends they were sad to leave and all the other guests were lovely. Great atmosphere!

All the tents have a well equipped, clean kitchenette. That was a very nice addition.

The toilets and showers were adequate and always clean.

The tents were a good size and the beds comfy what more can you ask for?

When you go camping you go camping so of course not everything is going to be like staying in a hotel but the added extras is what makes this site stand out from the rest. We came away happy and the site realy made the holiday enjoyable.

We most definitely want to return next year.

    Disliked:

The dislikes? Its hard to write this part because there wasnt anything i especially disliked and out of the control of Claire. Like i say it is camping and the good definitely outweighs the bad but in the interest of a balanced review there were a few minor things that could of been better.

Due to the hot weather the boiler played up so we had cold showers. This was just unfortunate and nothing anyone could do.

Our bench wasn't the strongest so you were a little reluctant to sit on it as an adult.

The lighting in the toilet and around the tents wasn't the best.

Some hand towels in the toilet would of been nice.

Thank you so much for being the Hostess with the Mostest Claire!
Such a lovely welcome from you too on our arrival to show us around and help us settle into our home for the week.
Rich, the little ones and I had the most terrific time staying in your gorgeous Bell Tent last week. Absolutley pristine (loved your special touches with the Indoor Solar light as well as the Floral Garlands- as a Florist it felt like 'Home from Home' for us).
The beds are incredibly comfortable and the Tent is large and spacious, perfect for my 6ft 5 husband to walk around in no problemo.
Fabulous to have our very own fully equipped kitchen too - SPOTLESS!, with everything we could need including cleaning equipment too.
The shower and toilet facilities are spotless and cleaned regulary throughout the day.
The views from the Glamping tents are ever so beautiful, it's so peaceful overlooking the fields. At night we enjoyed looking up at the stars and spotting satelites shooting over.
We enjoyed having the fire pit, thank you (something we've not done before-very cosy in the evening), thank you for supplying us with the wood!
As parents to children aged 6 and under, it was so nice to stay in such a safe location where we could always see the children at all times playing and having fun.
Thank you for being so friendly and approachable, your fun character was the icing on the cake for a Perfect Family holiday. There was a gentleman we were chatting too on our last day - lovely chap but didnt catch his name. Please send thanks our way to him for being so helpful and approachable too.

We'll definitley be back again- there's so much more that we'd like to explore that we couldnt quite squeeze into our week away.

    THANK YOUUUUUUUUU 😍😍😍😍

The bell tent we stayed in was lovely. The beds were comfy, clean and very well maintained. The location is close to so so many beautiful beaches and places to explore. The kitchenette is a great idea and very convenient on a good day. We suggested maybe alittle shelter on the rainy days so you don’t end up eating in bed. Claire is lovely and very accommodating. The site is very well maintained and the WCs/Showers cleaned at least twice daily - the site is full of space for the kids to play and the little park was an added bonus.

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers. We payed £80 a night and got a shed with 3 WCs and 2 showers for the whole site. The lights in them at night are solar and you cannot see a thing. They are damp and unwelcoming. Was such a let down on a lovely site.

Hi Camelle, thank you for your review.
So glad that you enjoyed your holiday 🏕️
This is the first time that the temperature of the water has been bought to my attention. I can adjust it easily on the boiler so will turn it down a little now. If I had know while you was staying I would have done it straight away.
Hope to see you all again soon, Claire 🙂
