Good morning campers

  • Dog-friendly site, 25 minutes’ walk to dog-friendly Perranporth beach
  • A 20-minute drive to Newquay; 40 minutes to Eden Project
  • On-site bar and kitchen, plus acres of space for games
Keen to explore the north Cornwall coast? Anchor down at the family-friendly Anchor Barrow Campsite, with lovely views over the Cornish countryside and the coast a short stroll away. This location is an excellent one for seaside stays – the three-mile beach at Perranporth is about five minutes’ drive away, or you can access the sands and the town’s amenities via three footpaths that run from the site (or from the bus stop just outside the site). Other Cornish hotspots like Newquay, Gwithian and St Ives are within easy reach too, should you fancy venturing further afield. Back at base, there’s a fine collection of facilities to make life easy and comfortable. All the basics are covered here: the bathrooms are modern and immaculately kept, and guests also have access to a launderette, a washing-up area and a kitchen corner with communal fridges/freezers and a microwave. On top of that, there are secure device charging lockers, a car charging port (extra charge) and a large secure paddock where dogs can have a run around. If it’s the kids that need a run around, that’s no issue – this site has acres of green space for playing, along with a full-size football pitch for more organised games. Meanwhile, if it’s relaxation time that you’re after, that’s easily sorted too. Anchor Barrow has an on-site bar selling a range of Cornish ales, ciders and spirits, and a kitchen that serves up breakfasts and coffees every morning and hosts fabulous feast nights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. All feast nights are accompanied by a local musician. If you’d rather go down the self-catering route you can bring or hire firepits, with wood available from the site shop (which also sells various essentials and Cornish goodies). A large indoor barn space has seating if it’s not outdoor dining weather.

What customers say

Anchor Barrow gets top marks for friendly staff, top-notch facilities, and great food/entertainment, with live music and theme nights. It's a welcoming spot with spacious sites near Perranporth. Occasional shower glitches, wind, and an overgrown beach path were noted. Management has policies to curb noise/drug issues.

Liked Everything! What a site …great mix of clientele ALL respectful and having a good time. Staff were hardworking friendly and the cleanliness was top notch. Live music and themed food served both nights. Big screen barn to watch the World Cup that didn’t impact noise wise if you didn’t partake ….so something for literally everyone. Keep up the good work Anchor Barrow team I think we’ll be back!

Liked What a gorgeous camp spot! Very clean, great location, great food & drinks, a nice amount of things to do at the camp site, love music of an evening & themed food nights! We will definitely be back!

Disliked As a family that don’t drink alcohol, it would be really nice if you served hot drinks of an afternoon & evening.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked From the minute we arrived to the minute we left this campsite was unbelievable. Checking in and a little guided tour from a very nice lady (didn't get her name) this site has everything covered. The breakfast bar lovely and the barn to chill out watch footie charge your devices and was happy to leave them there for a couple of hours no problem and not to mention the silent disco which was the Mrs first time and was great fun. I even didnt mind washing up because the view was amazing (better than home)
All in all 11 stars out of 10

Disliked May seem petty and sad but the toast was sourdough bread and was a bit cardboardy but maybe a personal preference 🤦‍♂️

Local attractions

Once you’ve got to grips with the waves at Perranporth beach, make your way to Newquay (20 minutes’ drive) for some of Cornwall’s most famed surfing spots, including Fistral beach. While in town, you could also visit Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium for some animal encounters, or hurtle down some waterslides at Waterworld Leisure Centre. If you’ve had your fill of ocean air, you can swap beach ambles for woodland wanders with a stroll around the 250-acre Tehidy Woods country park (20 minutes). Dogs are welcome here and, with more than nine miles of path to plod, there’s plenty of peaceful woodland and pretty lakes to explore. Dogs can also accompany you to Trelissick Garden (25 minutes) – while they’re not allowed inside the house or gardens, they can tag along on roams of the surrounding parkland, including the three-mile Woodland Walk circuit. Speaking of gardens, a visit to the Eden Project (40 minutes) is a must while in Cornwall – the huge indoor rainforest has all sorts of spectacular greenery and plants to see, as well as exhibitions and events for the whole gang. For more family days out, there’s Lappa Valley Steam Railway (20 minutes) or Paradise Park and JungleBarn wildlife sanctuary (half an hour). Closer to base, a trip to Healey's Cornish Cyder Farm (10 minutes) comes with tours, tractor rides, farm animals and, of course, tastings – there are fruit juices for the kids to try, while grownups can sample ciders and wines.
