  • Luxury Cornwall glampsite on a farm 15 minutes’ drive from Penzance
  • Lamorna Cove, pub and South West Coast Path 20 minutes’ walk
  • Play area, games room and cinema room; hot tubs and honesty shop
Now everybody loves the idea of a Cornish camping holiday – but what about a Cornish glamping holiday? There’s masses of luxury and plenty of room for all the family (and any dogs) in the safari tents at Lamorna Glamping, on a farm with rural views 15 minutes’ drive from Penzance. The tents sit in a huge field, with plenty of room between them for maximum privacy. Each sleeps up to six in double, twin and cosy cabin beds. Well-appointed kitchens come with Belfast sinks, toasters, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and so on, there’s a separate dining area, and cosy sofas give the living space an inviting vibe. Ensuite bathrooms (no traipsing around fields after dark for you) have roomy showers too (bedding and towels are supplied, but please bring your own beach towels). Heating comes from woodburning stoves doubling as cookers, and two bags of logs are supplied for every night’s stay. There’s an honesty shop on site for little treats or emergency supplies, as well as charcoal for the barbecue on your private decking – where you’ll also find a hot tub for lazy moments. Thoughtful extras include a delicious Cornish cream tea upon arrival, a play area, a games room and cinema room – the latter two handy if the fickle Cornish weather refuses to play ball. As this is a working farm, you’ll see tractors passing by and you’re welcome to visit the sheep, pygmy goats, ponies, chickens and giant lop-eared rabbits.

Local attractions

Doubtless the kids will want to head straight out to the beach: sandy options include Sennen (20 minutes’ drive) for surfing schools and board hire, or paddling and picnics at Porthcurno (15 minutes) and Praa Sands (half an hour). If you fancy a scenic coastal hike, pack the beach towels and head for pretty Lamorna Cove (35 minutes’ walk) – your reward will be a swim and a pint in the pub on your way back to base camp. If you feel inspired for longer hikes, you can join the South West Coast Path at Lamorna too. Buzzy Penzance (15 minutes’ drive) is the place for stocking up on supplies, and there are other pretty corners of Cornwall to explore, such as Newlyn (10 minutes) and Mousehole (15 minutes) fishing villages, both with a sprinkling of waterside pubs and cafés. Culturally inspired days out might include a trip to Tate St Ives (35 minutes) to admire contemporary artworks, or an alfresco evening visit to plays at The Minack Theatre (20 minutes), set against the dramatic backdrop of cliffs and turquoise sea.
