  • Rural campsite in a rural setting overlooking Mount's Bay
  • Penzance 10 minutes' drive; St Ives a quarter of an hour
  • Dog-friendly campsite overlooking open countryside in Cornwall
Restful rural surroundings with an ancient village, castle and sea close by… that’s the lovely little mix at Garris Farm, a quiet and peaceful site on a hillside above the small village of Gulval in the far west of Cornwall. With views over Mount's Bay and spectacular vistas towards Penzance, this elevated site is an excellent spot for holidaying in one of the prettiest parts of the South West. Appreciate the relaxing surroundings and watch the night sky light up with stars, or take yourself out on active jaunts over the miles of local footpaths past church towers and old mine stacks that point to Cornwall's industrial heritage. The site has direct access to paths that lead from the farm to Gulval, Castle an Dinus and Chysauster Ancient Village, a late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement. The South West Coast Path is close too if you fancy some really splendid scenery, with seaside towns like Penzance and St Ives accessible in under a quarter of an hour's drive. The set-up at this simple farm site includes a running water tap, recycling bins and a toilet and shower block in the yard. Dogs are welcome here, as long as they are well-behaved and kept on leads at all times.

What customers say

This campsite boasts stunning views of Mount's Bay and Penzance. Visitors rave about the friendly owners, clean facilities with hot showers, and its prime location for exploring West Cornwall. While basic and natural, it offers essential amenities and a relaxed vibe. Some noted sloped pitches and no hot water for dishes, but most found it great value and would return.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The site was a lovely big field on a hill with amazing views all the way down to Penzance. The campsite was well signposted and really easy journey to both Penzance and St. Ives. The facilities were well looked after and warm- good hot shower, lots of provision for recycling and washing up station with a view.
The owner, Nicola, was lovely and friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and helpful with suggestions. Would definitely stay again.

Local attractions

Dig up a little of Cornwall’s past… it’s easy to do so from this campsite. The Chysauster Ancient Village (roughly half an hour's walk) was full of farmers 2000 years ago, but now, you’ll get to look around the remaining village street, courtyard and thatched rooms. Then, make way to Marazion for St Michael's Mount (15 minutes' drive), where the tidal causeway leads the way to an old fortress… picnics on the front lawn, shopping or just learning the tales of the past make for a history-full afternoon out. Geevor Tin Mine (25 minutes) opens up the past Cornish copper mining history, but when you’re done with learning about history, there’s the Tate St Ives (15 minutes) for those art fans among you or the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (10 minutes) for finely-fashioned exotic and sub-tropical gardens, an art gallery and sculpture garden. Off to other horizons… Penzance (10 minutes) is the place to go for ferries to the Isles of Scilly, while Mousehole (20 minutes) is a traditional fishing village and Land's End (30 minutes) has shopping and splendid scenery on the most southerly point in England.
