  • Small, simple north Cornwall site next to a livestock field
  • Seven sandy beaches within three miles; 2.5 miles to Padstow
  • A mile from the village of St Merryn and its pub
Ready for a real rural experience? There will be no doubting that you’re in a proper countryside location when you stay at The St Merryn Triangle – at this north Cornwall site the 2.5-acre camping field sits right next to a field of cows happily grazing away. This is a pretty simple site that’s not one for those who need constant entertainment – but if you’re happy simply to slow down and watch the cattle quietly wandering about for a while (the sort of thing that can really soothe a frazzled brain, you’ll probably find), this place should suit you very well. The field itself is sheltered by high hedges on all sides, and has basic facilities in the form of portable toilets, a water supply and rubbish facilities. You’re welcome to bring kids and dogs along, but please note that dogs will need to be kept on a lead at all times to avoid trouble with the livestock. Putting your feet up and watching the animals may well become your new favourite thing, but when you’re not doing that you can be exploring the nearby coastline – perhaps heading to Padstow (10 minutes’ drive) for a meal or visiting one of the seven excellent sandy beaches within easy driving/cycling distance. You may also like to plan an outing to the local pub, a mile away in St Merryn.

Local attractions

It’s worth bringing bikes along here if you can, for a nice easy way to get to the local beaches without having to concern yourselves with parking. The sandy beaches of Trevone Bay, Treyarnon Bay, Porthcothan, Constantine Bay, Harlyn, Mother Iveys Bay and Booby's Bay are all within three miles, so they’re suitable for biking to (or you can take a short drive if you prefer). Another place to put on your list is Padstow (10 minutes’ drive/half an hour’s cycle) – it’s well known for its seafood restaurants and also home to the National Lobster Hatchery. From Padstow you can get a ferry across the Camel estuary to Rock or go cycling along the Camel Trail to Wadebridge, Bodmin and beyond; bike hire is available in Padstow if you need it. Fancy throwing something a bit different onto the menu for your beachy break? Spend some time at St Merryn Maize Maze & Sunflower Trail (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle), hit the rides at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive), take the kids to meet the animals at Macdonald's Farm (10 minutes) or explore the elegant Pencarrow House & Garden (25 minutes).
