  • Peaceful pop-up site on a working organic farm in south-east Cornwall
  • Looe Beach, Bodmin Moor and Adrenalin Quarry 20 minutes’ drive
  • Organic vegetables, apple juice, cider and wood for sale
Halfway between the south-east coast and Bodmin Moor, Trevalon is a back-to-basics pop-up site on a working organic farm with views over the Looe Valley. Its simple facilities include compost toilets and hot showers, washing-up sinks, cold drinking water and recycling areas. The site is just a 10-minute walk from the sleepy hamlet of Herodsfoot, secluded and peaceful today, but once upon a time a centre for lead and silver mining with three mines and a gunpowder works. (The village is also the only "Thankful Village" in Cornwall, with all 13 of its men returning from World War I alive.) There's easy access to Trevalon from the A38, making it nice and easy for you to get out to south-east Cornwall's many scenic beaches, fishing villages and the coastal paths between Rame Head and Fowey (half an hour's drive). The spectacular Bodmin Moor is just a 15-minute drive north, and the lichen-covered woodlands of Seaton Country Park, Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve and Kilminorth Wood are within a 10- to 20-minute drive. If you need any provisions during your stay, Liskeard (15 minutes’ drive away) has supermarkets, and as organic vegetables are grown on the farm, they are seasonally available for purchase alongside apple juice, firewood and cider produced on the farm. As an organic farm committed to wildlife conservation, there's nature all around you, so you will be sharing the field with birds, insects, spiders, voles and field mice; a sealable plastic box will come in handy to keep your food safe.

What customers say

Affordable getaway! Yurts are lovely, with lots of room for kids. Some found pitches uneven, and washrooms needed tidying. Getting to yurts can be tough with no driving access and a steep hill.

Primitive grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked There were showers

Disliked The Toilets weren't maintained well or cleaned of the spiders and other bugs.
The field is sloped and has no real pitches.

Big Green yurt (six person)

Liked Not over crowded only 2 yurts on this field. Loads of open area. Kids could run riot with no complaints.
Yurt was nice .had a 6 birth one, but this was only big enough for 2 adults and 2 children.
You have your own parking space if staying in the yurts.

Disliked Can't drive car to were yurt was to unload, so done several trips up and down a steepish hill.
Would of been better to drive down unload then park car in carpark provided.

Local attractions

Turn south and you’ll be on a popular southern Cornwall beach in around 20 minutes by car. Overlooked by its pretty namesake town, Looe Beach is a swathe of golden sand with safe swimming and watersports like kayaking – it’s also good for rockpooling with younger kids. From there, you can join the South West Coast Path for jaunts to Bodigga Cliff (45 minutes on foot from Looe) for sea views, or to the Chapel of Lammana (half an hour) to inspect the clifftop ruins. Turn inland and it’s 20 minutes’ drive to Bodmin Moor, where you can follow sections of the Copper Trail from St Neot (also 20 minutes), which links former mines and villages, scramble up to the precarious Cheesewring granite formation atop Stowe’s Hill (25 minutes), or hike up to the Hurlers Stone Circles (20 minutes), a group of ancient standing stones. The water rides and carousels at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (50 minutes) make a great day out with the kids, and for more high-octane adventures, you can whizz down zipwires at Adrenalin Quarry (20 minutes).
