  • Peaceful rural Cornwall site a five-minute drive from Liskeard
  • East Looe beach 25 minutes’ drive; Tintagel 50 minutes
  • On the edge of Bodmin Moor, with views over surrounding countryside
Lovingly managed and well maintained, Fursdon Farm Campsite is located on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, and it has far-reaching views of the surrounding (and pretty spectacular) Cornish countryside and the moor itself. This family-run site, which used to be a dairy farm, has been welcoming guests from all over the world to this part of the south west since 1990, so you can trust that you’re in good, experienced hands here. The site itself is peaceful, with great facilities including toilets, showers and a designated dog-walking area for guests travelling with their four-legged friends. A network of footpaths makes it easy to explore the local area too, so you can admire a Cornish sunset on a nearby hill before returning to base to take in the stars in truly dark skies. Fursdon Farm Campsite is surrounded by fascinating sites – from old mines to prehistoric heritage spots such as wells, stone circles and burial chambers, including the Trethevy Quoit dolmen (10 minutes’ drive); the river Fowey’s Golitha Falls are also in the vicinity (10 minutes). The town of Liskeard is five minutes’ drive away for shops and restaurants, while the coast at Looe (and sandy, sheltered East Looe beach) can be reached in about 25 minutes.

Local attractions

Clinging to a wooded cliffside overlooking the English Channel, Looe is a pretty fishing village and seaside resort. Unwind on its beach before checking out the maritime and smuggling displays at the Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol, in a 15th-century stone building. Nelson, the statue of a grey seal, sits on the west side of the harbour. National Trust - Lanhydrock (30 minutes’ drive) is an elegant country house, originally from Jacobean times (early 1600s) but largely reworked in the 19th century. Heritage pots and utensils fill the large Victorian kitchen, and a splendid collection of ceramics features delicate pieces from East Asia as well as European porcelain. The grounds include formal, flower-filled gardens and ancient woodlands laced with trails. Renowned for its link to King Arthur and associated mythology, Tintagel (50 minutes) is worth a visit for the ruins of its medieval castle, on a rugged stretch of coast. Cross the bridge to a small peninsula where you can explore Merlin’s Cave and admire ‘Gallos’, the large bronze statue of a royal figure.
