  • Five-acre rural Cornwall campsite with views of the Lizard Peninsula
  • Porthleven beach and Cornish Seal Sanctuary within a 15-minute drive
  • Café on site, plus animals to meet
The Lizard Peninsula, St Michael’s Mount, St Ives and all sorts of splendid spots along Cornwall’s north and south coasts are all yours for the taking when staying at Roselidden House Camping. This simple and quiet site 10 minutes’ drive from Helston is in a fantastically handy position for exploring – or for just sitting in the five-acre field and enjoying the views out over the Lizard Peninsula. There’s plenty of space here to relax and spread out so you’ll never be bunched up with other guests. Your neighbours will include the site’s own pet sheep and foster donkeys, so although dogs are allowed they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times. Facilities are fairly simple but with all the essentials in place: guests will have access to a washing-up area, a freezer, charging points and a couple of bathroom blocks with family rooms as well as separate men’s and ladies’ facilities. This is a site that goes beyond just the essentials though – it’s also got a café which sells breakfasts, light lunches, drinks and cakes along with a few basic groceries including fresh milk (opening hours vary through the year so check the notices for details). Once you’ve seen the Lizard views from afar, it’s a fine idea to get out and take a closer look – there are some stunning beaches down there, with plenty of walks and watersports to get stuck into as well. Family attractions like the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Helston Railway are also close by for kid-friendly days out.

What customers say

Highly-rated site: spotless facilities, peaceful, beautiful location with rescue animals. "The Crate" cafe gets rave reviews for food. Owners & staff are super welcoming. Some found access roads tight for bigger vehicles; the old pool is closed.

Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite

Liked Clean toilets, friendly staff and nice on-site cafe.

Disliked Approach to site is very narrow and the entrance is chllenging, the site is very exposed and sloped. The price does not reflect the facilities and is expensive for a basic site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So Sorry you feel our pricing is too much for a basic site, however compared to other campsites we believe we are fairly priced. (Our pricing structure has not changed since covid). We are very open that our campsite has basic facilities.

The website indicates a tight entrance and gives instruction on the best way in from the main roads.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite (two person)

Liked I liked just about everything. The toilets were spotless. It was quiet and peaceful. Excellent location for those wanting a central base from which to explore the Lizard peninsula by bus. Their café was superb. Dawn and her hubby were incredibly helpful. Sheltered seating with tables in both the cafe and 2 open-fronted buildings meant that I could relax on site without having to sit in my little tent waiting for the sun to come back out! Lots of books, board games and children's toys available. A muti-socket electric power point for charging phones, etc in reception. Good thick hedges provide shelter from possible storms for tents, and the site was pretty level on very well draining, well mown grass covered, soil. And their donkeys and sheep were rescued animals and they all looked very happy in their new home.
They may or may not have WiFi near reception but I didn't ask; there was nothing at the far end of the field - but network reception was excellent. I saw a washing machine in reception but didn't use it - couldn't see how I might dry my clothes, etc, but I didn't ask. If I feel brave enough I think I was told they are open the whole year round with the exception of two weeks at Christmas, but I might have dreamt that! Overall I was made to feel like I was a very important and valued camper :-)

Disliked Café is only open from Thursday to Sunday whilst I was there at the start of September - but well worth the long wait from the Monday I arrived!
Very narrow lane for access - though luckily not a problem for me as I didn't have a car and every vehicle I encountered was conscientious and didn't try to run me down!
Not for people who want lots of fancy facilities - no swimming pool, tennis courts, or bar on site - what they do have though is excellent :-)

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Gorgeously warm welcome from the owners on a windy day, they made sure we were comfortable and had gone to great lengths to ensure all the guests had everything they needed. The space was exceptionally clean and well organised, best showers we've had while camping and the BEST food from the Crate cafe onsite!

Route directions

Please note the entrance gate is slightly tight at 9 feet wide – it is wide enough for caravans but if you are towing please swing in wide to line up. Many satnavs will take you along very narrow lanes; to avoid this, it's best to travel from the A394 (from either Falmouth or Helston), take the turning towards Trevenen Bal and follow the route from there.

Local attractions

Cornwall holidays must surely all include extensive exploration of the amazing coastline – and you’ll be well placed to do that from Roselidden House. Top spots on the Lizard Peninsula like Kynance Cove and Kennack Sands are about half an hour’s drive away (and linked by spectacular coast path walks), or you could head to the likes of Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive), Praa Sands (20 minutes) or Poldhu (20 minutes). Other spots to seek out along the coast might include St Michael’s Mount (25 minutes), Trebah Garden (25 minutes) or – up on the north coast – St Ives (35 minutes) for its excellent mix of art galleries and gorgeous beaches. Although the coast draws much of the glory, there’s much to see and do inland as well. Perhaps you’d like to have a nostalgic journey on the heritage trains of the Helston Railway (10 minutes) or spend some time meeting the residents of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes)?
