Waking up to a sea view is pretty special, eh? Especially when it’s a sea view that takes in part of Cornwall’s stunning coastline… And that’s exactly what’s on offer at Trebarwith Seaview Campsite, a secluded site just under a mile from the little village of Delabole. And this isn’t a case of catching a glimpse of the waves if you crane your neck – this is a place where the vistas of the Atlantic Ocean stretch for as far as the eye can see. If you think that sounds like just the place to sit back in your camping chair and daydream with a drink in hand, well, you’d be right. You’re welcome to light up a barbecue if you feel that a grilled sausage would complete the picture (or start a campfire if it’s a little more warmth you need). After something more active? This is a great spot for all of that, with places like Tintagel, St Nectan’s Glen and Port Isaac all nearby, along with several gorgeous beaches including Trebarwith Strand, two miles away. Alternatively, fill days with fishing, surfing, horse riding, bike rides on the Camel Trail, walks on Bodmin Moor or hikes on the South West Coast Path… then chill out with a drink and dinner at one of several pubs within five minutes’ drive). The setup here is quite simple with just portable toilets on the facilities front, but it’s very welcoming for families large and small (and yes, that welcome stretches to well-behaved dogs too). A well-stocked village shop is just a few minutes’ drive up the road for handy supplies.

Local attractions

For more views of that gorgeous seaside scenery, set off to Trebarwith Strand beach (five minutes’ drive), where you can hit the surf or embark on a hike along the South West Coast Path. The surf schools at Widemouth Bay (25 minutes’ drive) are handy for beginners, while the sands at Polzeath (20 minutes) are popular with families. Bossiney Cove (10 minutes) and Crackington Haven (15 minutes) might be good options for something less crowded – and you mustn’t miss a chance to cross the bridge to King Arthurs’ old haunt, Tintagel Castle (10 minutes). Pretty Port Isaac (15 minutes) and the waterfalls at St Nectan’s Glen (10 minutes) should be on the schedule too. Away from the coast, take walks on Bodmin Moor (20 minutes), looking out for ghosts as you go, or ride bikes along the traffic-free Camel Trail from Wadebridge (20 minutes). There’s a fishing lake a couple of minutes’ drive away too, and horse riding within five minutes – or you could try out the madcap fun at Giant Slip and Slide Cornwall (10 minutes).
