A sunny day at wildly

  • Green and rural site within walking distance of beaches
  • A mile and a half from Bude town centre; Boscastle a half hour drive
  • Dogs, campfires and barbecues all allowed
Park up, admire the view and then wander down to the beach at Wildly Camping, a friendly Cornish site about a mile and a half from Bude town centre. With acres of space, peaceful vibes and a great coastal location, this site makes an excellent place to settle down, whether you're travelling as a family, solo, as a group of friends or with your dog. Surrounded by farm fields, Wildly Camping has essential amenities including luxury toilets and hot showers, two drinking water points and a recycling corner. It's an unlit site, so you'll want to pack a good quality torch with you to get around after dark. Barbecues and campfires are allowed. While it feels thoroughly wild (a vibe sustained by the site’s quiet hours at night after 10pm), this spot is within easy reach of civilisation when you need it. Pubs, shops, supermarkets and a tea room can be walked to within about half an hour, and the speedy A39 road is five minutes away by car, making it easy to zip around and see your favourite bits of the West Country.

Friendly, well-kept site near beaches and Bude town. Reviews praise clean facilities and owner Nick's helpfulness. Pitches are level and spacious. Some noted limited washing-up space and occasional shower queues, but most guests loved it and want to return.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Had a great stay in Bude at Wildly Camping. Great communication throughout our stay and a good host. The campsite is in a quieter part of Bude making it a good place to enjoy the lovely town but get a bit of peace and quiet at the end of the day. Decent pitch with good ground for camping. The toilets and showers were clean and warm. It's secluded with trees which gives a nice countryside feel. The nearest beach is a few mins away, it's an ideal location for us as a couple but could imagine families also. Thanks for such a lovely stay!

Liked Liked how close it was to the beach - good walking distance and the beach was lovely.

Facilities were nice and clean and new. The site was tidy.

It was nice of the owner to come and say hello too which was nice. You dont always get that.

Disliked Felt a bit too close to others.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The people staying were generally very quiet and respectful - which was a good job as we were packed in so close together. The toilets and showers are kept very clean.

Disliked This campsite was not at all what I expected from the description, reviews and photos. It's the least 'Wild' campsite I've ever stayed in. I really don't mind the basic facilities or even waiting a while for the toilets in the morning, but the site is just a long, thin strip of grass and we were really packed in. The pitches are so close together that you can hear what your neighbours are saying even though people were generally talking quietly. The photos on the website are taken when the site is either empty or about half full. It was full the whole time I was there. I felt like I wanted at least one whole pitch space between tents/vans to feel comfortable. The only view is of the hedges on either side and the tents/vans/cars next to you and opposite.

I usually choose the far end of a site as it's quietest but there is a holiday park opposite and a big building that makes a loud droning noise (maybe an industrial air con unit) so we had to camp nearer the entrance and showers so as not to hear that.

We arrived late and had already paid upfront or I'd have left straight away to go and find somewhere else. We made the best of it, set our tent up facing the hedge to get a bit of privacy and were out all day anyway, but it felt rather like camping in a carpark. I know some people like a crowded, busy campsite but if you like a bit of space and a wild feel then I don't think this site is for you.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The flat surface provided a stable and comfortable experience during my stay. Nick, the owner, was consistently friendly and incredibly helpful throughout my visit. It was a pleasure to find that the accommodation was only a ten-minute walk to the beach. This convenient proximity to the shoreline was a definite highlight. Overall, the location and service made for a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Flat, secluded field. Good size pitches, not rammed in. Great location for Bude beaches by bike or foot. Friendly relaxed host. Supermarket and town shops close by. Two toilets and two showers were immaculately clean at all times. Good wash up facilities.

Disliked Not a dislike, just a suggestion. A second block of toilets and showers at the other end of the field would be helpful when the campsite is full capacity.

Local attractions

Bude is a well-liked seaside hub, with several top-quality sandy beaches, a wide range of independent shops and a number of well-regarded surf schools that will help you take your first steps on the board. Other top leisure options include golf clubs with sea views, offshore fishing charter trips and, if you really want to slow the pace down, beach hut rental, which is available by the day. For days out of town, simply set out north from the site, taking the South West Coast Path into the gorgeous Hartland Heritage Coast area (about a mile from base). Walk the 45 minutes across the cliff tops to Sandymouth Bay, or pack a picnic and press on to Duckpool beach (an hour and 20 minutes on foot), a remote mix of sand and shingle that's bound to be even quieter. Being in such a central location opens up explores further afield as well: other north Cornwall gems like Boscastle (30 minutes) and Tintagel (40 minutes) if you want to head west, while Devon sights like Clovelly (30 minutes) and Bideford (40 minutes) lie in wait to the east and north.
