  • Secluded and small site with amazing views over the South Downs
  • A 25-minute drive to Arundel Cathedral and Worthing beach
  • A historic site with walks, shops and pubs nearby
Warminghurst Camping is way off the road, off grid and tucked away in West Sussex farm fields. This is a small site offering spectacular views of the South Downs and ancient Chanctonbury Ring. History buffs – take note: here you will be sleeping on the site of a house formerly owned by William Penn, the Quaker founder of Pennsylvania, USA. Basic facilities include one flushing toilet, two composting toilets, plus access to at least one washing-up sink and shower with hot water. Cars are allowed on pitches in dry conditions – if the field becomes too wet, alternative parking is provided, along with a wheelbarrow to transfer all your gear to the field. There are oodles of walks straight from the site, leading through woodland and open farmland. The nearest pub serves local beer and good food and is a 15-minute stroll away on a good footpath – so you can leave the car behind. A drive around the area turns up loads of other eating options in small villages nearby. You can stock up on essentials in Ashington (five minutes’ drive), with a convenience store, petrol station and chemist. The supermarket, local butchers and indie shops in Storrington (10 minutes) should serve all your other needs. No recorded music on site please – but playing acoustic stringed instruments is actively encouraged between the hours of 10am and 10pm.

What customers say

This beautiful, peaceful site has stunning South Downs views. Guests love the friendly owner, spacious pitches, and clean facilities/showers. Its quiet rural setting near walks & a pub is great. Some note distant road noise & wish for optional campfires. Overall, a relaxing, enjoyable stay with many wanting to return.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Great view, lovely quiet campsite, great location, good facilities that are spread out well over the site. Running water to wash hands and a mix of flushing and compost loos. Friendly owner. Good range of pitches. Good pub a nice walk away.

Disliked Not dislikes just suggestions:
Middle shower next to compost loo has a gap of about 1/2 inch in the door so curious people can see in while you shower if they are going to compost loo which is attached to it.

Wheelbarrow of wood £15 : good value for money but would be good if there was an option to buy half a barrow as we just couldn’t get through all the wood in 2 nights!

From the manager: Thanks for the review and suggestions. I am attending to the shower door which has warped in the heat this summer - apologies for inconvenience.

Liked Such a peaceful site with beautiful views. Lovely location, with many options for places to visit nearby. An evening stroll to the village pub is a must. Shower facilities are well kept, no shortage of hot water. Very friendly and helpful host.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site is easy to find and well looked after. There’s plenty of space and it’s very clean. There are two toilets and two showers - the shower shack was the best morning shower ever! The owner checks in with you when you arrive and is so welcoming. There are bricks for bbqs and buckets and drinking water. Pub is 10 minute walk away. This really is a hidden gem in West Sussex. Highly recommend! The views are breathtaking, it’s so silent and beautiful.

From the manager: Thanks for the lovely review and great photo! I often use the shower myself because it's better than the one in our house. There are actually 3 toilets , 2 compost toilets and 1 WC. Please note that the pub is only open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Absolutely gorgeous place with basic but clean and well functioning facilities. We loved the old Warminghurst church and the White Lion Inn (walking distance). Chris was very helpful. Lovely small campsite for nature lovers! The views are magnificent.

Disliked The noise of planes at certain times in the day but this is to be expected given the proximity of Gatwick.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the great review and lovely photos of the wheat crop! Yes I'm afraid in certain wind conditions we are on a Gatwick flight path but planes are fairly high.

Excellent campsite in nature with a beautiful view.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Lovely quiet site with level pitches, lots of trees around the perimeter and a great view. Simple but perfectly clean and adequate facilities, and a surprisingly good shower. Good O2 signal. Welcoming and helpful owner. Really enjoyed my short stay, thank you. (Have only awarded 1 star for wifi and child friendliness because I cannot comment on these aspects).
