  • Peaceful, well-maintained site in West Sussex countryside near Horsham
  • A 10-minute drive to golf and fishing; 40 minutes to the beach
  • Pub and shop within walking distance; close to hikes on the Downs Link
Want to be in peaceful countryside yet also in pole position for access to town facilities, family days out and the south coast? Set your sights on Sussex Topiary Campsite, a quiet site located in the village of Rudgwick, near Horsham in West Sussex. Swings and slides will keep the kids occupied at this family-friendly site, and there are plenty of walks around the grounds – great for doggos – as well as cute little seating areas with pond or woodland views. You can barbecue at your pitch (but please keep campfires off the ground), or head for the local pub (20 minutes’ walk) for good pub grub in a beamed dining room; there’s also a local shop where you can stock up on essentials. You can keep your food fresh in the communal fridges back at base; other facilities include a modern, spotless shower and loo block with a washing-up area. Also, every Friday from 4pm, the site plays host to a pizza van. Looking further afield, bigger shops are in Cranleigh (15 minutes’ drive) or Horsham (20 minutes), and both towns have a vast choice of pubs, restaurants and takeaways – there’s also a cinema in Horsham for the odd rainy day. If the weather's looking more pleasant, take hikes on the nearby Downs Link or set off for south coast beaches like Worthing or Shoreham for days of playing about on the sand.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely site with tree lined areas, great location for nice walks. They accommodate all your basic needs for camping. It was very quiet when we stayed so it was all very enjoyable. Hired a fire pit and purchased some timber for cash on the day.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review, hope you stay again soon.

Great location but wouldn't stay again.

Liked The secluded location.

Disliked The quality of the showers and the lack of them for the number of guests wasn't great with us having to wait every day. There were only two male and two female showers for a large number of guests.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments, yes only 4 showers until planning is successful then will be building a new block, we do have a new block of toilets on site.

Liked Loved the pitch areas and quietness of campsite.

Disliked Lack of facilities. Showers were very basic but were hot and clean. There was only 2 showers in both the male and female blocks so it got very busy.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments, we are working hard with planning to get permission for a large new shower block in the near future.

Clean and tidy site, close to lots of attractions. Really enjoyed stay

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked The campsite was clean, owners friendly, sheltered by trees, plenty space for kids, quiet- no motorway or road around, showers clean with warm water.
We had a great time.

Disliked Campsite has been opened for 4 years only, the owners are awaiting a permition to build more showers and toilets.
A little shop with essentials would be good.
Tents were very close to each other.
Children's area is a but small.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind comments, each year we are using the money we take to make our site better each year.

Local attractions

If you’re holidaying with the kids, treat them to animal encounters and pony rides at Fishers Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) or head for the coast at Worthing or Shoreham (both 40 minutes) for bucket-and-spade-type fun on the beach. You can also chuff-chuff through scenic Sussex countryside on board the Bluebell Railway steam train (50 minutes). If you want to get active, it’s a short hop from the site to cycle rides and walks – the Downs Link (10 minutes) follows disused railway lines across the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and you’ll also get amazing views from Leith Hill Tower observation tower (25 minutes). Angling, horse riding and golf are on hand too – all within a 10-minute drive from your base camp. This area of Sussex is awash with sprawling stately estates, so you might like to tick off the Victorian rock garden and wallaby colony at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, check out the art collections and majestic architecture at 17th-century Petworth House and Park (both half an hour), or stroll the lakeside paths at the National Trust-owned Winkworth Arboretum (20 minutes).
