Peaceful site in the sussex weald

  • Quiet family-friendly site on a smallholding in the High Weald
  • Ardingly Reservoir 15 minutes’ drive; Brighton half an hour
  • Firepits, communal kitchen and picnic benches; freshly laid eggs sold
Looking for a site where you can take long strolls with your dog and maybe let the kids interact with farmyard animals? Deaks Acres, a five-minute drive from the West Sussex village of Cuckfield, might just be the place for you. Just on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this family-friendly site is part of a smallholding with goats, horses and geese, so there’s always a furry (or feathered) creature nearby for your kids to pet or help feed. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. Each pitch has its own firepit for cosy campfire evenings; if you’re in the mood for making new friends, there's also an area around a large bonfire for guests to gather and socialise. For a fabulous breakfast you surely can't beat scrambled eggs made with eggs from the resident hens. The communal field kitchen is the place to cook these – it's also got a barbecue and a washing up area. For other provisions, the petrol station just across the roundabout on the A272 (10 minutes’ walk) has a small shop, and Haywards Heath (five minutes’ drive) has several supermarkets. Of course, you might opt for a cooked meal from a traditional pub, of which there are several in Cuckfield. There are heaps of walks and bridleways to explore directly from the site, or you can drive to Ardingly Reservoir (15 minutes) for a waterside trail, an activity centre with paddleboards and kayaks, and a dog park you can hire by the half-hour to let your canine buddy run free. For a day at the beach, Brighton is a half hour’s drive away.

What customers say

Deaks Acres: a lovely, peaceful spot with friendly owners. Kids love feeding the farm animals! Pitches have picnic tables & fire pits. Expect some distant road noise & tricky GPS, but signs are there. A hidden gem, with many returning!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Karen was so lovely as was her little dog. It’s very peaceful there but Karen has also added lots of little bits to do, should you need entertainment. There’s a good kitcheny area to do washing up and some cooking as well as a very well maintained loo/ shower area.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really like the peaceful and small location of the site.
Karen was amazing and my two children 13 & 10 had the most amazing time seeing and being able to stroke all the animals and Even help feed them.
The kitchen and shower block were really clean and worked perfectly.
The addition of a picnic bench and fire pit on the pitches is also a lovely touch.
We will definitely be back!!!!!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Had a fantastic two night stay at Deaks Acres. Beautiful quiet location and well set up with each having your own pitch with private bench/fire pit and so having plenty room between tents. Maximum 10 pitches and newly installed toilets/showers. Nice to have the farm onsite with two pigs, goats, horses, geese, chicken, sheep and rabbits! Excellent hosts/owners being very welcoming and friendly. Would highly recommend staying here and some lovely walks nearby.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely little campsite, only 10 pitches I think. Immaculate toilets and showers. Peaceful and relaxing with friendly pigs, goats, sheep, Shetland pony, horses and chickens all on site to say hello to! Great kids play area for families. Every pitch has a fire pit and sturdy wooden picnic bench, meaning one less thing to pack. Logs and fresh eggs available to purchase on site. Dog friendly and a lovely walk by a stream nearby.

Liked Everything! We loved how kind and friendly the owners were, we loved being able to meet and stroke the animals, we thought the toilet and shower block was clean and fresh, we thought the pitches were a good size, we loved the picnic bench and fire pit - just everything!

We had read the amazing reviews before we came and can 100% say they are spot on. We will definitely be back. Just loved it!

Disliked Literally nothing. It’s such a great campsite.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely small holding with large pitch, fire pit and picnic table. If you want to cook on the fire pit you will need to bring a cooking rack. You can buy a large bag of logs for £10. Karen is really friendly and helpful and the toilets and showers were spotlessly clean. There is a washing up area with cooker and kettle.
There is lots to do on site, badminton, swingball, football, large connect 4, swing, toddler play area.
There are lots of animals that you can pet and they are all really friendly, pigs, goats, sheep, Shetland pony, horses, rabbit, guinea pig, chickens, geese.
There's a lovely walk though the vineyard and the woods that takes about 45 mins and is fairly easy walking.
Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

Disliked Showers were very hot but Karen did turn the temperature down a bit when I mentioned it.
Noise from motorbikes on the main road at night even though the main road is quite a distance away.
