  • Scenic and spacious site with private woodland to explore
  • A 15-minute drive to Dover Ferry Port and Canterbury Cathedral
  • Dogs, campfires and barbecues welcome; walks straight from the site
Get set for time well spent in Kent – scenic seven-acre site Coxhill Camping is an excellent pick for folk looking to relax and/or explore. The grass pitches at this working arable farm are surrounded by mature trees, and there’s a rather fine 10 acres of private woodland attached to the site – with direct access making it easy for guests to explore. It’s a friendly place: families, couples, solo travellers and dogs are all welcome, and it’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup so you can choose the spot you most like the look of. Whichever one you choose, there’s plenty of space to spread out and to play games if you like. This is a particularly good spot for walkers, as there are paths running straight from the site and the local village of Shepherdswell is on the North Downs Way (also making this a good stopover option for those taking on the whole trail…). Other days out nearby might take you to Canterbury (including Canterbury Cathedral), to the White Cliffs of Dover or to the beach – all are within a 15-minute drive. And that proximity to Dover also means that this is a handy spot for those needing an overnight stay before/after a ferry journey; Dover Ferry Port is a 15-minute drive from the site. As for facilities, there are firepits to hire (with logs and kindling for sale) and you’ll have access to well-maintained flushing toilets, showers, a cold-water washing-up area, drinking water taps and grey waste/chemical disposal points. Shepherdswell, under a mile away, has a pub, shop and playground as well as a train station for mainline services (to Dover, Canterbury and London) and heritage rides on the East Kent Railway (the station also has a café).

What customers say

Highly recommended campsite. Guests loved the clean facilities and helpful staff, perfect for ferry/Eurotunnel stopovers. Peaceful with spacious pitches. Minor road noise and dishwashing hot water were noted, but overall great value and well-maintained.

The Menage powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Clean and very good facilities. Individual loo / showers rather than a single large block.

Well sign posted on arrival, self-check in very simple.

Beautiful woodland onsite and a wonderful pub down the road!

Disliked The gravel pitch had a “carpark” vibe about it. Very open and quite bleak (but surrounded by beautiful countryside).

The Menage powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Good location. Close to the port of Dover. Excellent facilities, quiet site and beautiful views. Self check in is an excellent system and the chatty and friendly owner comes around to check every so often.
All facilities were spotless. It’s a “quiet site” where we welcomed the “no music” rule. We had music on quietly in our campervan but everyone was respectful of not having to listen to anyone else.

Disliked A bit pricey. But worth it for location and peace.

The Menage primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Good value - i was on a gravel non electric pitch (one person) at £15 a night. Clean, quiet, good facilities and nice shower, washing up etc. nice rural 20 minute walk to the village including what looked like a lovely pub, though i didn’t go in. Co-op shop in village too. Woodland walk from campsite too. Friend;y owners. Recommended.

The Menage powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Our second time of staying here. Great location for LeShuttle and for visiting Dover Castle, which is definitely worth a visit and has breathtaking views over the white cliffs. As the weather was cooler this time, we appreciated the heater in the shower room. The water pressure in the showers could be better though. Only thing to note: if someone is using the adjoining shower cubicle, the water temperature goes down - maybe something that could be improved. On arrival in Dover, we needed to stock up on food , but found it tricky to find somewhere to park our motorhome. We were advised to use the New Dover Road Park & Ride to visit Canterbury and it was excellent. Just £4 to park and included the bus fare for up to 6 people - it had dedicated motorhome spaces and even services, if needed. Dover could take a leaf out of Canterbury's book.

Disliked Not a dislike as such, but on the site leaflet it said there was a 'path' to the local village and we decided to visit the pub for a drink. Just be aware that - while it's well sign-posted - the path is round the edge of a muddy field and across the middle of another muddy farmer's field, so you will need walking boots/ wellies. It took a while to clean my trainers afterwards!

From the manager: Hi Karen, we're so pleased you came to visit us again! Thanks for the review - for next time there is a Tesco Extra in Whitfield where you can stock up on food and you wouldn't struggle to park your motorhome there. Its under a 10 minute drive away from the campsite. We hope to welcome you again! Emily

Local attractions

Getting out into Kentish countryside is easy, beginning with a historical sort of trip from Shepherdswell station 10 minutes' walk away. This is a stop on the East Kent Railway, a heritage railway that will shuttle you through the Golgotha Tunnel and Kent countryside. Of course, it’s likely you’ll want to see Dover Castle and the White Cliffs (15 minutes' drive). Margate (35 minutes) is another popular pit stop, with vintage rides at Dreamland as well as the buzzy beachfront. St Margarets Bay (15 minutes) is quieter, but just as splendid. Those of you familiar with the Canterbury Tales – or, in fact, anyone wanting to do a bit of sightseeing – should head to Canterbury (15 minutes) too. Other cool spots? Driving diggers at Diggerland Kent (45 minutes) is high up there. Wingham Wildlife Park (20 minutes) too, especially if you’re an animal fan. Once a favourite haunt of smugglers, and now well suited to those who like the smaller seaside town vibes, is Deal (20 minutes).
