What customers say
Stone Pit Meadows is lauded for its peaceful, secluded, nature-rich vibe with lovely wildflower meadows and ponds ideal for spotting wildlife. Guests appreciate the private pitches and remarkably clean, well-equipped amenities with thoughtful touches. Wild swimming and stargazing are big hits. It’s a serene getaway with friendly staff. A few sanitary blocks were noted but are kept very tidy.

We enjoyed our stay
1 bedroom shepherd's hut (no pets, ensuite)
Liked The Cabin was well fitted out. Communication was great with the venue and they offered for us to check-in before 3pm
Disliked The signage could be a little more clear on the lane. We passed it a couple of times before finding the entrance. The mattress was very uncomfortable. I had trouble sleeping as I could feel the springs. A new foam mattress or a foam layer on top would help. I would chose a different venue only because it was difficult to keep my 6 year old boy entertained. We already live in a country location. Would chose a coastal location next time.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
We are delighted that you enjoyed the Hut and took advantage of early check in, which we offered for no extra charge.
Detailed arrival and check in details are emailed to guests on booking. This email includes detailed information on how to find the rural site. There is also a Stone Pit Meadows sign at the entrance to the site.
It is true to say that we do not have any specific activities for children, and we don't advertise that we do have any (save for the wild swimming pond which has proven very popular with children and adults alike!). The site is deliberately a quiet rural retreat - as stated on the Pitchup listing. However, for those looking for a bit more adventure there is a river sports centre not 3 miles away (kayaking, canoeing etc) which also has a fantastic restaurant / cafe with live music and outdoor seating, along with the K&S steam railway about 4 miles away, and Bodiam Castle a very short drive. These are mentioned on the Pitchup listing as well as in the welcome pack in each Hut.
It is also true to say that we are a countryside site, not on the coast. This is evident from the map of our location and the site photos, and description. Our Pitchup listing states that we are a 'peaceful haven on a farm site in the High Weald countryside'. However, the beautiful coast in Rye is a short drive away, offering a historic town as well as popular beaches like Camber, Winchelsea etc a short distance.
We apologise that the bed was uncomfortable. This is genuinely the first time that we have had any review of the Hut beds being anything other than extremely comfortable, so shall investigate to ensure comfort for future guests. In regards the Wifi - this was given a very low rating however we have no other feedback so cannot comment much further. There is normally very good Wifi coverage on the site so not sure why you might have had problems. Occasionally the router needs to be rebooted which we can do instantly if made aware of the issue.
Again we apologise that you didn't have a 10/10 stay and will attempt to address those concerns you raised that are within our control.

Liked Small campsite, wild swimming lake, wild flowers
Disliked Despite it saying it's adult only, there were a number of screaming kids staying in the bell tents! Loud music coming from there in the evening as well as loud music coming from off site nearby

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked A child-free site with just a few pitches, Stone Pit meadows is the perfect location for a peaceful break. Everything has been really carefully thought through and it shows. The wildflower meadow and wildlife ponds offer great opportunities for nature lovers (we saw a kingfisher!) and the walk through the vineyards and woodland on forest is great for stretching your legs after a night in a tent.

Liked We loved absolutely everything about this site. The welcome was warm and it from there it only got better: a truly beautiful wild-swimming pond; impeccable facilities; extras and incidentals everywhere (right down to the marshmallows and cool box)- it was genuinely faultless. We can't wait to go back!

1 bedroom shepherd's hut (no pets, ensuite)
Liked We had the most peaceful relaxing weekend staying in one of the stunning shepherds huts at Stone Pit Meadows. The hut was beautifully decorated and we were very well accommodated. Nicola the host was so friendly and welcoming, she arranged for a birthday balloon as requested and even added a bowl of local cherries and a slice of cake with a candle which was a lovely suprise. We enjoyed some nice country walks and sitting by the fire pit toasting marshmellows that were also provided. Would definitely book again and highly recommend! Thanks for a great weekend Stone Pit Meadows!
