Time in the Test Valley is time well spent – this lovely pocket of Hampshire is well-known for its scenery, clear chalk streams and gentle pace of life, making it just the spot for a laidback camping break. Stockbridge View, a quiet site near the Test Valley market town of Stockbridge, is conveniently located just off the A30. This back to basics choice is within easy reach of Winchester (20 minutes' drive), Salisbury (25 minutes), Stonehenge (25 minutes) and Southampton (35 minutes). The pitches here are set over a flat and grassy area that's bordered by trees and hedgerows. You can pitch up wherever you like at this laidback farm spot, and all parts of the site are a few minutes’ walk from good basic amenities like a modern toilet and shower block and a chemical disposal point (please use green fluid). Campfires, barbecues and firepits are welcome here as long as they are lifted well off the grass. Handily, firewood is available to buy if you haven't brought your own fuel. Wood-fired pizzas, kebabs, pub food and a small supermarket are all available less than a mile away in Stockbridge town centre via a quiet bridleway. Please note that there's a clay pigeon shooting range half a mile away and therefore there may be some noise from that heard on site (mainly on Saturdays, but sometimes on other days).

  • There are no garbage cans onsite: all garbage will need to be taken home with you.
  • Please note that showers will not be available in sub-zero temperatures. You must provide the registration number of all vehicles, as the site has ANPR cameras and vehicles not registered may be asked to leave.

Liked A big open, organised field with picnic tables and chairs and good hard standing pitches.
The site manager greeted us and checked up on us during our stay. Wash house was clean and had hot showers.

Liked a lovely open site with good facilities a short walk from Stockbridge town centre and friendly helpful staff. plenty of hot water for showers and washing up, clean toilet block and washing up area. Perfect for couples and families wanting a few days out in the countryside. Loved that firepits were allowed.

Liked Tidy site, back to basics, a lot of other campers thought the same, a lot were repeat campers. Toilets and showers were immaculate, site warden Mark induced himself and made himself visible.,Choose your own pitch which we like, all together a lovely experience. A bridle way takes you into Stockbridge without being near traffic

Liked Clean toilet/shower facilities. Friendly staff, overall very family friendly. Good washing up facilities, freezer for ice packs and ability to charge phones and battery packs (at owners risk). Would definitely go again.

Disliked Would benefit from a checking in facility. Had one guy try and get the code to enter from other campers and get stressy with people when refused.
Whilst there is plenty of room to camp, was very surprised that the field was a lot smaller than the pictures made it look.

Liked Loved our short stay at Stockbridge View. Extremely good value with great facilities. So nice to be able to have fire pits on the site. Site management very friendly. Sadly we ended up curtailing our visit due to the weather ☔ but we will be back!! ☺️

Liked Lovely little campsite, plenty of space with little light pollution. The owners are very friendly and often came past to check up and say hi. As for the facilities, they are top notch for a campsite.

Disliked There is an option to purchase firewood from the campsite, however for £10 all we received was a bag of 8 logs that weren’t even dry!

For greenery and gardens, try Houghton Lodge (five minutes' drive), a small-scale spot dating back to the late 18th century in a gorgeous riverside location. The grounds at Mottisfont (15 minutes), a National Trust-managed house and garden, may be a bit grander in scale, but they're in a relaxed country location and aren't too big for a day out with young kids. This part of the world has lots of military connections, so how about a trip to the Army Flying Museum (10 minutes), or to Winchester (20 minutes) and its regimental collections in Peninsula Square? Inspired to try a bit of target practice yourself? The Spitfire Shoot (five minutes) can sort you with clay pigeon sessions (mostly on Saturdays, but sometimes at other times too). A little bit further away there are world-class attractions like Stonehenge (25 minutes), a must-see when visiting this part of the world, as well as family-focused options like Paultons Park (30 minutes), a theme park, and the interactive exhibits at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke (30 minutes).
