  • Rural dog-friendly adults-only site in Sherfield English
  • Half an hour's drive from Salisbury and 10 minutes from the New Forest
  • Cosy country pub within a 15-minute stroll
To Hampshire for a holiday in a rather relaxed kid-free spot? Meadow Tree Farm is a nearly-wild site with basic facilities on a working beef farm. Friendly and adults-only, it is spread over 21 acres on the edge of the village of Sherfield English, about 10 minutes' drive from Romsey. There's plenty of space for you (and any doggie companions you may have brought along) to chill out on site and, most importantly, a cosy country pub a gentle 15-minute stroll away. Fishing lakes are next door and there are fab trails for ramblers and cyclists a few miles away in the New Forest National Park. Back at base the laidback vibe is preserved by keeping facilities to a minimum, but the essentials are all in place, including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Sounds good? You'd better be quick: Meadow Tree Farm is a pop-up site that's only open for a limited amount of time each year.

Very friendly. Would return if dry and toilet/shower block improved.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Really friendly welcome (incl. fellow campers). Tent pitches looked really lovely (we were in a campervan) - would recommend for anyone under canvas.

Disliked: Very sadly weather was pretty diabolical this weekend and left the land super soggy. After walking around, as suggested on arrival, and talking to fellow campers, we found a pitch that was perfectly dry enough. Fortunately we were trying a night without EHU (2nd time out in van), but if we had wanted hook up we would have been closer to soggy patches. Would be great if more EHUs were closer to tarmac but understand that this may not be possible. Loos and shower were disappointing. Take your spray for midges - I came home with lots of bites - again, much to do with weather, I suspect. I’m not a great fan of unisex unless they are ‘closed’ cubicles. We would take note of lessons learned - wellies for trips to loo (trail shoes were fine but not easy to slip on and off), get there earlier to set up (we arrived at 6 this time but that wasn’t to be helped - eventually settled in around 8.30pm), take wet wipes and don’t worry about shower.

Primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked: The site felt very natural and there was lots of space to find a pitch. Was dog friendly and it was a fairly relaxed vibe at the campsite. There were not too many large groups with loud music. The lady who ran the campsite was very friendly and checked up on everyone.

Disliked: The toilet and shower facilities were fairly minimal.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Host was friendly and kind.

Disliked: Unfortunately, everything. Although the host was very friendly, that was the only positive part. The field was aparently waterlogged, so instead of cancelling bookings, everyone was squeezed into 'half' the space...literally touching one another. Way too cramped and over populated. Although pre-warned that she was having difficulty keeping up with the mud, (understandably, must be difficult) the condition of the toilet block was not far short of revolting.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This review is grossly over exaggerating and In our opinion unfair. The field was only partially waterlogged and a barrier was put up to discourage people from pitching in that area however this was by no means half of the site. We were exceptional busy as most places are on a bank holiday weekend but this was no more then usual and campers certainly were not touching each other. The floor in the toilets were muddy but the sinks, showers and toilets themselves were always clean and well stocked. The field looked busier on arrival because many people had chosen to pitch at the front of the site rather than closer to the farm. During this couples stay they did not mention to us about any issues or concerns and as far as we were aware they stayed the duration. We can not help resolve issues if people do not talk to us and only put a bad review after the fact and some of the other reviews of this weekend paint a better picture especially with thier photos. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay however this could have been resolved in a much better way rather than over exaggerating

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Location

Disliked: Insufficient toilet facilities for so many people. Too many people crammed onto small site, albeit due to muddy fields (but why allow us to book online at the last minute if conditions were like that). Photos very deceiving - looks like you would be able to pitch in a beautiful secluded spot, but not the case.

From the manager: I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay and sadly didn't approach us on the day to discuss your concerns. I am always wondering around assisting and talking to people so we could have come to an arrangement if you had approached us rather than just place a negative review. It is a bank holiday and we are always exceptionally busy especially on our campervan field I'm sorry you had the impression that you would have a secluded spot had you approached us as expressed this desire we could have placed you in a different field far away from everyone else. And due to the poor weather it did look a little more crowded then normal however each person still had Thier own space which is still more then the standard size you would get at any other site. The facilities are also well advertised so I'm unsure why they were not to you expectations. Next time please give the site a chance to resolve your issues before you leave rather than just giving a negative review.

Powered forest floor tent campsite (woodland)

Liked: How chilled the campsite was, and very good you can have your own fire.

Disliked: It wasn’t much of a dislike but there wasn’t enough power hook up’s, so you either had to go without or stretch it all the way to the other side of the field

Primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked: Really enjoyed our two nights at meadow tree farm. No children but a very dog friendly site. The absence of kids did mean a much longer lie-in which was great novelty. Particularly liked the picnic tables dotted around - much easier to cook from etc. Hired a fire pit, had a great BBQ and look forward to a return visit. Compared to some sites on a BH weekend it was excellent value for money.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

Bring your boots along, for there’s much rural rambling to be done in the New Forest National Park around a 10-minute drive from Meadow Tree Farm. Bike trails run through the forest too, and you can saddle up to see the wildlife from horseback at a riding centre a few minutes’ drive from the site. Other open-air activities nearby include teeing off at one of the golf courses within a 15-minute drive or swinging through the trees at the Go Ape park half an hour away. Sailing lessons and boat trips can be had from Southampton or Lymington, both within a 45-minute drive. For history-infused days out, head to Sailsbury or pay a visit to Romsey Abbey, Breamore House or the vintage car collection at Beaulieu, all of which are within a half an hour’s drive. For animal antics, Marwell Zoo is also about half an hour away.
