  • Adults-only site surrounded by 30 acres of peaceful parkland
  • A 10-minute drive to Audley End House and Gardens; Cambridge 35 mins
  • Within walking distance of village pubs, farm shops and cafés
Hello, 30 acres of peaceful parkland and goodbye noisy kids… Debden Park is an adults-only site with grass parklands and a quiet location in Essex with views over Debden Lake. With running water and a compost toilet, all folks who set down here should be set for a peaceful getaway. There’s a public footpath that goes from Debden Park to the villages of Debden, Widdington and Newport. With each route taking around half an hour or so (avoiding the roads) and the end destinations having at least one excellent pub, this is bound to keep you quite occupied. For good coffee and locally sourced snacks, the site runs Ninas Farm Café, which is a 15-minute walk (or a two-minute drive) from the site and open on weekends and bank holidays from 9am to 3pm. For fresh farm eats, there are many farm shops around too (including one 40 minutes’ walk away). The site has direct road access, making it easy to get out to historical properties such as Audley End House and Gardens (10 minutes’ drive) or to Cambridge (35 minutes) for grand architecture, bookshops and river punting activities. If you are going to the concerts at Audley End House, the owners advise you to arrange your transport well in advance, as it's almost five miles away, and the area doesn't have many taxis. It's a little too far to walk but easy to get to by car or bike (for experienced cyclists). Debden Park has views of (not access to) the lake. It runs a farm with horses, sheep and pheasants, so well-behaved dogs are welcome (as long as they are kept under close control at all times). There are basic facilities (no showers or electricity), but a gorgeous, untouched setting and good 4G signal (usually).

What customers say

This quiet, rural campsite gets rave reviews for its welcoming owner, Lynn, and beautiful open views. Perfect for Audley End concerts with shuttle service. Basic but spotless portaloos & fresh water. Guests loved the space and peace. Some missed showers, but it's great value & location.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked I chose the Debden Park campsite, as I was travelling to Saffron Walden to attend a concert at Audley End, with my son. I took the opportunity to extend this into a couple of day's break away.

We were well aware that the campsite would be a very basic set-up. The people running it were very welcoming and friendly. When I asked about the local area, they were forthcoming with useful information.

On the camping field, we saw a pair of little muntjac deer and also kites and buzzards, in the skies above.

Saffron Walden was around 5-10 minutes away by car. It's a charming town, with an ample range of café, restaurants and pubs. There is also a gallery, museum and some fantastic antique shops.
We found the townsfolk to also be friendly and welcoming.

Audley End was a lovely, picturesque setting for the concert. The sound was spectacular.

My son and I very much enjoyed our stay at Debden Park and I hope to visit again. 😎

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked This is a truly wonderful gem in the rural Essex countryside. The field is huge so it's easy enough to find a spot (unmarked pitches) away from anyone. You're then free to enjoy the peace & quiet of an adult only, off grid campsite. Absolute bliss. Easy walks on public footpaths to Debden village, where The Plough can serve you good grub & to Nina's café. Dog-friendly too, on lead. We feel very lucky to have found this site & are grateful that we were allowed to stay beyond check out time as it was so quiet. Definitely one we'll be returning to. Thank you 🙏🏼

Route directions

Please note that the site should be accessed from Newport because turning into the site is easier coming from the Newport side due to the angle. Turn onto Debden Road, travel for just over one mile and on the sharp left-hand bend where you see the black and white chevron road sign, Debden Park is immediately on the right. The site doesn't have a postcode so they suggest you follow the What3words location: pocketed.vital.comforted.
