Moss Lane is a well-maintained site that’s been set up in the half-acre field to the rear of a private home in the lovely Lancashire countryside, about 10 minutes’ walk from the small town of Burscough. Pitch up here and you’ll be surrounded by farmland with lots of places to get out for a variety of walks – the Leeds-Liverpool canal is close by for waterside strolls (particularly fine when they end at the town’s wharf, which is full of bars and cafés…) There are several good places nearby for eating out, including both pubs and restaurants, but you’re also welcome to pick up self-catering supplies in town and start up a barbecue for some alfresco cooking. Firepits are permitted too if your main aim is just to keep warm. You can expect a friendly welcome from the owners at this site, along with plenty of handy facilities to keep things ticking over smoothly – you’ll have access to a toilet and shower, along with a washing-up area, garden seating and a shed with comfy chairs where you can relax if the weather takes a turn. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and can have a bit of exercise in the dog run area. Getting out and about from here is easy, even if you decide to leave the car behind, as Burscough has two railway stations for services to Liverpool or Southport. That said, there’s no messing around in country lanes for drivers to contend with as the site has handy access from the A59.
