  • Adults-only pop-up site on a farm a 15-minute drive from Preston
  • Blackpool 25 minutes’ drive; Forest of Bowland 40 minutes
  • Seasonal entertainment; rotating food vendors; communal fridge
If you’re of a certain age (let’s say if you were around in the 1990s), the word ‘Hacienda’ conjures up memories of cool music and hedonistic dance parties. While Hacienda Events Campsite is unrelated to that scene, it does share a similar ethos, with seasonal events, live bands and DJ nights livening things up for the guests. And since nobody wants to party with their offspring in tow, this pop-up site is blissfully child-free. Sitting on the outskirts of Lea (10 minutes’ drive), a satellite village of Preston (15 minutes), in Lancashire, the site belongs to a farm with a huge tree-lined field, a pond, bridleways and expansive rural views. However, chances are you’re not here for the peace and quiet of the countryside, but to have a ball with your mates – to that end, it’s worth keeping an eye on the Hacienda’s social media channels so you can time your stay with your preferred form of entertainment, whether themed parties, band nights and beer or food festivals. Both beer and food are big deals here, with a pop-up bar and tap room, and a roster of pop-up vendors serving delicious dishes, plus great coffee and a breakfast service. If you’d rather cook your own meals, stock up on provisions in Lea (there’s a communal fridge for storage) and light up the barbecue. Those who need to clear their head after a night of music and merriment can take a long walk along the Lancaster Canal (less than half a mile away) or the River Ribble. For longer, more challenging hikes, head to the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (40 minutes).

Pennine powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: We had an excellent stay. We were in a motorhome on hard standing with ehu. Plenty space between the pitches. Great location & very friendly site, all the other guests were very friendly too as most were there for a festival weekend. Despite there being live music annd bar on site it was peaceful & we didn’t feel disturbed by noise. Excellent communication via WhatsApp from Rick who was on site frequently and responded quickly to any queries & good local knowledge of transport/ walks. Facilities basic but clean & plenty hot water. More facilities being added all the time we were there - extra showers & handwash basin. We didn’t use the onsite catering but it looked great. There’s a lovely pub down the road also & easy to get taxis to & from the site into Preston or bus service 30 mins walk. There’s also a walk/ cycle path by the canal

Pasture primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: We had a perfect stay. Beautiful pitch, soft but not boggy, and we were able to take advantage of one of the portable braziers. We pitched close enough, but not too close, to the facilities, which were simple but clean with plenty of hot water. We loved coming back to the friendly communal fire and a glass of wine and hot snack option at the end of the Saturday. And the bacon and egg butty in the morning was a life saver. Rick answered any queries promptly via wattsapp and the site had a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and go again if in the area. Xx

Liked: Absolutely loved our time at their amazing pop up event. Well organised, clean and the staff were really accommodating. Enjoyed meeting Rick who was one the organisers. We were given a big hard standing for our Van and well looked after. I would thoroughly recommend his place. I will be looking out for events in the future.

Pennine powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: Saturday night entertainment. Admittance cost to this was included in our stay (free complimentary drinks on arrival too). Street food was delicious. Good communication from host.

Disliked: Toilets need updating - but I think this is work in progress, as there are new cubicles under construction. It is not totally an adult only site as advertised (although the entertainment event was adult only) Surrounding areas had family camping, therefore, children running around which didn't bother us, but could be misleading if you are after a totally child free zone.

Local attractions

Blackpool (25 minutes’ drive) is famed as a party town, so you can keep the jollity going. There are thrill rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and views of the Irish Sea (and as far as the Lake District) from the top of the Blackpool Tower. ‘Strictly’ fans might like to have a spin on the dancefloor of the ornately decorated Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Lancaster (35 minutes) is known for a well-preserved hilltop fortress dating from the early 12th century. Learn all about the history of the city at the Lancaster City Museum, then head to the banks of the River Lune to visit the Lancaster Maritime Museum, with seafaring artefacts. For a quiet day at the seaside, head to Southport Beach (45 minutes), with its vast expanse of sand and the long, leggy Southport Pier stretching into the water. Just south of the main beach, the Birkdale Dunes are a nature reserve dotted with wildflowers.
