  • Well-maintained and peaceful touring park in the scenic Ribble Valley
  • Clubhouse on site with two bars, games room and pool tables
  • Indoor pool; toddlers’ paddling pool; two play areas
A touring caravan holiday among the velvety greenness and wide open heather-strewn moorland of the Ribble Valley? Sounds just up our scenic street. If you want to take in the Lancashire landscape, cruise along to Three Rivers for a family break at any time of year with the whole crew – canine campers are welcome too. Kids can get hyper at the goodies of the games room, and with one of the two bars in the clubhouse aimed at adults and the other aimed at families, there shouldn’t be too much of a culture clash. (Entertainment is seasonal, and changes weekly.) The snooker room is only for the big folk, so drop the kids off to let off steam in the games room while you chalk your cue and prepare to show your fellow campers who’s boss. Just remember to keep the karma and not strut your stuff too much on a disco dancefloor later to show the offspring how your generation does it properly, or wrestle the mic away from them too much at Saturday night karaoke… If the kids refuse to be seen with you the day after you treat the campsite to the sounds of your dulcet singing tones, bribe/mollify them by taking them along to the Three Rivers indoor pool – there's a toddlers’ paddling pool here too so littler folk don’t get too squished or splished, and a shower to use afterwards to rinse off. (If that still doesn’t work, let them loose on one of the two park play areas...) There’s a lot to be said too for just sitting and watching the world go by: Three Rivers is set in 45 acres of mature woodland and has been awarded for its conservation. Hopefully there won’t be any chores included with that, but if you’re planning a lengthy stay you might be glad to know that among the many amenities on site is a fully-equipped launderette with several washers and dryers.

Local attractions

Three Rivers is just a few miles from the historic town of Clitheroe, and while Clitheroe Castle with its gardens and the acclaimed Clitheroe Golf Club are both recommended, the town is best known for its specialist shops: Cowman’s Famous Sausage Shop sells over 75 types of sausage while no visit to Clitheroe would be complete without getting lost among the world vintages in the cavernous cellar at Byrnes Wine Shop. Most of the Ribble Valley is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: here and in the Forest of Bowland you’ll find all the walking, cycling and horse-riding you’d expect, as well as 44 villages to explore in the surrounding area. Bowland has some of the most remote walking in the north-west – toss away your shoes and pretend to be a hobbit on the Tolkien Trail (hairy toes optional), or start in the village of Pendle to go moorwards on a Brontë walk. If your legs are still holding up, you can also climb Pendle Hill from the 3000 year old village of Barley for some of the best views of the Ribble Valley. Day trippers will be delighted with the Three Rivers location: the park is off the M6 and well placed for many of the north’s big cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, York, Bradford and Leeds, promenading and Pleasure Beaching at Blackpool or even ambling around the Lake and Peak Districts.
