Our campsite

  • Quiet campsite in rural Lancashire for adults only
  • A mile from Chorley town centre; Go Ape Rivington 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches beneath Healy Nab; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Primrose Cottage Camping – a sweet-smelling name indeed, with spectacular countryside views to match. Set amid grassy fields, woodlands and streams in the lovely Lancashire countryside, this site is an excellent spot for back to basics camping in a low-key setting – and as an adults-only site, it does not accept children. Located beneath Healy Nab and next to Blackbrook stream, the site is hidden away in the local countryside. Flat walks along both footpaths and canals are available a few hundred yards from the site gates, making it a cinch to get out there and explore Lancashire's best scenic spots and wildlife havens… Strolling through the local landscape is, of course, an activity you can get up to with your dog if you've brought one along – Primrose Cottage Camping has pet-friendly rules, with polite four-legged friends welcome here all year round. In fact, all guests at this quiet site are asked to be polite and keep any music at a low level for the benefit of everyone around. Chorley town centre is a mile away, although with the rural views here you wouldn't know it. The closest pub is 10 minutes' walk away, and are plenty more pubs, shops and cafés in town within easy reach either on foot (20 minutes' walk) or by car (five minutes' drive). There's also good access to the speedy M61 for long-distance drives to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, both of which can be reached within an hour.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Campsite was lovely. Really grateful for the 'no noise' policy, which ensured it was a relaxing stay. Toilets were kept really well and the location was fab - off the beaten track but a 30 minute walk to Chorley town centre. Will definitely come back again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely adults only site, nice views and good location for pubs/ shops and good walk.
We loved watching the family of horses in the next field. Small toilet block was very cute and always clean, no showers but for a weekend not a problem.
Owner was very nice and helpful.
Will definitely return

Disliked As some people have said you can hear some noise from the motorway but after a short time you get used to it and it just fades into the background. It didn't bother us at all and you could bring earplugs for nighttime.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely setting really. Great location, good amenities and very visible fire safety in case the worst happened. Price was very good (£25 + £5 for the gazebo) and the facilities (proper loo and basin in the toilet block) were just right making it great value for money. Field was large enough to accommodate plenty more tents/camper vans and still feel open and tranquil. Was very peaceful sat having a coffee in the morning. I would definitely consider booking a stay here again. Its distance from major transport links could mean of you were doing a long trip from the south coast to Scotland, you add a pleasant night here to break up your journey for sure. Would also consider it a base for a few days to explore some of the surrounding countryside. All in all we had a lovely stay and I for one would stay again.

Disliked Nothing really. Little bit of background hum from the nearby M61 but nothing too overpowering. I always have ear plugs when camping anyway so that overcame any issues. The only possible addition it might benefit from would be a little shower block to help you feel completely refreshed but as our stay was short and the price was low it’s more of a future consideration rather than any real dislike.
