  • Family-friendly site on a family-run working farm a mile from Orton
  • Between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District; close to the C2C route
  • A five-minute drive from the M6 and Tebay services/farm shop
Moor House Farm Camping is a simple campsite on a large family-run working farm in the Cumbria countryside, just under a mile from the pretty village of Orton. It’s the kind of location that’s likely to win lots of fans: look out over gorgeous views of the Howgill Fells while on site, then easily get out to the village for a pub (a proper country pub with real ales, meals and takeaways), a café, a well-stocked village shop, a play area and a chocolate-maker, plus a farmers’ market (every second Saturday of the month). Orton’s also on the famed Coast to Coast route, so this farm makes a good stopover point for long-distance travellers as well as those who’d like to sample a smaller section. There are peaceful walks and bike rides to be had all around, with the Lake District National Park on one side and the Yorkshire Dales on the other. There’s plenty of space to relax on the farm, where you can watch the cows and sheep grazing in neighbouring fields. (Please note that life on a working farm does come with a bit of noise from various bits of machinery and the occasional ‘country smell’…) Facilities at this site include showers, a toilet block with hot washbasins, hand dryers and an outdoor washing-up area. Electricity for the shower block is provided by an on-site wind turbine. This is an unlit site, so you’ll want to bring along a torch.

What customers say

Highly recommended rural escape on a working farm, near M6. Praised for spacious pitches, great views, spotless facilities, and friendly hosts. Unisex facilities and some uneven ground noted, but plenty of space. Guests want to return.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The location, the fact that we had the whole field to ourselves and the friendly helpful host. Also the wash house, with spacious shower and basin with hot water. We even had excellent signal, 5G for our phones!

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Stunning views, very clean facilities and super friendly staff. It was easy to find and had lots of helpful signs even if the staff weren't on site.

Disliked The field is on a hill so it wasn't the easiest to find a flat place to park up.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Owner was on site and checked all ok very friendly, and lots of space to choose from field is partially on a gradient so good for drainage.
Constructive feedback the Washroom whilst very clean was unisex, and my wife was a little nervous using the shower whilst other sexes were using the WC. But understand its only a small set up

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked This was our second time staying here, and we loved it just as much. We stayed for two nights this time and had a great experience again. The campsite is really nice with lovely views and very clean facilities.

It’s only a 15-minute walk to a pub and the pizzas there are amazing!

The owner is so friendly and welcoming - can’t wait to come back again!
