  • Spacious, friendly site on the Cumbrian coast
  • Fell walks, Lakes Coniston and Windermere within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from pubs, chip shop, dog-friendly beach and watersports
How’s this for having your cake and eating it? Harbour Lights Campsite is a couple of minutes’ walk from Haverigg beach on the Cumbrian coast – and behind it, with trails beginning 15 minutes' drive away, the famed hills and fells of the Lake District (not to mention those lakes themselves). No more tough choices, have the lot here. If you have any problems on this Cumbrian cracker of a site, it’ll be deciding what to do first. You could start by taking in the view: sunsets over the beach and sea with the hills looming in the background; on this friendly, well-kept but unfussy site there’s little to get in between you and the grand surroundings. Don’t fancy missing a minute in the open air? No problem, barbecues and firepits are all to hand. Dogs are welcome on site, on the beach next door and in many of the nearby pubs. On that note, there are places to sip and sup in Haverigg, and more of the same plus supermarkets in Millom, both about five minutes' drive away.

What customers say

Harbour Lights is a top-rated campsite in a prime coastal spot, a short stroll from the beach with lovely views. Staff are consistently praised for being friendly and helpful, and the clean, modern washrooms are a real highlight. The onsite ice cream parlour is a big hit! Dog-friendly with plenty of space and nearby walks. Most feedback is stellar, though a few mention occasional noise from a generator and minor pitch drainage issues in wet weather.

Liked Sadly we were unable to stay as our cat was very poorly on the day we booked, but I received a phone call from a very kind man late afternoon asking if we were still coming. I explained we were unable to visit and he was very compassionate. I would like to visit soon.

Liked The toilet and shower block were clean and spacious. Friendly welcome from the lady on reception.

Disliked Not a lot of space between the other tents. Dog mess not being cleared up by the irresponsible owners.

Liked Everything. Didn’t realise we had been there before ( my deadhead brain). Was really happy as we had invited family and friends and they had booked on. The site was really busy but the cleanliness of the site ie toilets & showers were still to a high standard. The site is an all round place with holiday makers and static owners.
A 5 minute walk and you’re at the ski bar which is a great place to eat. There is a mariner in front of the bar which have activities on. (Not sure of prices as we were just spectator's.
Even though we have been twice we wouldn’t hesitate to book again, and family & friends said the same.
The owner is only young but he’s a lovely man as is his aunt who we met both times.
The ice cream shop on site is to die for 😘. All round amazing site.

Disliked Not really a dislike like just a suggestion. There’s No vanity room to do hair & make up. There is a hair drier in the toilet block but not in a great place and only one. Just needs a place with a few mirrors & sockets. BUT that won’t stop me from going again.

Liked Harbour lights was a nice site with good walking for dogs and local shop within walking distance. I liked the shower blocks with nice hot water and they were clean. Would go there again.

Disliked Having said that we went out of season and found it to be noisy during the day with the beach road just the other side of the hedge. The toilet block looks in need of work doing. Around the washing up area there was a bad smell. Could do with more drinking water points.

Local attractions

Haverigg’s wide sandy beach is fab for walks, castle building and kite-based antics, from flying them to being hauled along the sands in buggies at high speed. If you’re after activities on the water, Port Haverigg Wakepark five minutes’ drive away has something wet and wild for everyone. Without straying too far, you can also go horse trekking through the countryside and galloping on the beach from Murthwaite Green trekking centre, or get your kicks with wheels and mud included at Haverigg Motocross Track (both 10 minutes). For walks with wildlife, it’s five minutes to RSPB Hodbarrow, where hosts of rare birds and plants thrive in the distinctive wetland environment. If you want to get higher, Black Combe is officially England’s biggest hill, 30 feet short of being a mountain and accessible by trails starting about 15 minutes' drive away in Wicham. Walks up the famed Old Man and surrounding fells start in Coniston, 40 minutes away. For lakes, well, take your pick… Windermere is 45 minutes away, for boat cruises, steamer trips and watersports as well as lakeside walks and cycling. Families make for Muncaster Castle (half an hour), on account of its Harry Potter-like appearance, resident ghost, adventure trails and playground and its Hawk and Owl centre with regular feeding and flying shows. For even wilder wildlife, the South Lakes Safari Zoo is 40 minutes away or you can Go Ape yourselves at Grizedale, zipping through the forest treetops on wires and ropeways (50 minutes).
