  • Motorhome pitches in woodland a 10-minute drive from Lake Windermere
  • Lakeland Motor Museum five minutes’ drive; Ulverston 15 minutes
  • Playground and duck pond; sauna and hot tub; launderette; shop
Experience the stunning landscape of the Lake District – but without the tourist madness often associated with the area – by staying at Black Beck Holiday Park, a peaceful site on the fringes of the national park. You’re only a 10-minute drive along the A590 from the southernmost tip of Lake Windermere here, which puts waterfront hikes and water-based activities within easy-peasy reach. Motorhome pitches (with water and drainage hook-up points) occupy an area of mature woodland with exquisite views of distant mountains. Among the on-site facilities is a secure children’s playground (with swings and see-saws), while the adults’ play area includes a sauna and a hot tub (with which you might well fall in love after a few days of scrambling up fells…), plus a shop selling beer and other local specialities. If you prefer your beer in a more social setting, a pub in the village of Bouth (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk) serves ales and traditional fare in a cosy setting with a woodburning stove and assorted taxidermy. There are more dining options along the A590, on the banks of the River Leven (about five minutes) and in the lively market town of Ulverston (15 minutes). Back at the site, take your dog (for which there is a small additional daily fee) for a walk along the site’s wooded paths down to the pond, where the kids can feed the ducks. In addition to a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, the site has a launderette (with an iron and a board) and a drying room.

What customers say

Beautifully kept, clean site with friendly staff & great facilities. Guests praise the peaceful vibe, lovely scenery, duck pond & well-kept pitches. A top base for the Lake District. Minor points: toilet block distance for tourers, occasional WiFi issues (new block coming). Many want to return!

Bluebell FHU gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Really good reception and a nice little shop full of goodies!

Disliked Motorhome pitch was really small, luckily for us there were no other motorhomes or we would have felt hemmed in. There were 3 pitches in a sort of circle and very claustrophobic. Motorhome length only just fit onto pitch. Very little to do on site, most views were obscured by the trees at the edge of the site. The holiday home portion seemed very crammed in, felt more like the owners are after £ per square footage rather than any quality. No where to exercise dogs, the best place to walk was up the farm campsite just above - the views looked amazing from there. The best views were of the field next to the site that was actually flooded looking more like a lake. Toilet / shower block was a long way from tourers field and there were only 2 showers per gender. These showers were extremely small and not a joy to use, although they were clean.

Bluebell FHU gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely clean and well looked after site with good sized pitches. Friendly and helpful staff. Toilets and showers modern and clean. Rabbits and ducks roaming around.

Disliked Not much to do directly from site, 1 walk but it was flooded when we went though would be good other times of year I'm sure.

Bluebell FHU gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked We arrived after check in - very clear and easy instructions to contact the warden who came to meet us and explain the map and ask any questions - toilet and shower block was great, clean and roomy

Disliked Toilet block for campervans was a far distance - considering it was raining heavily in throughout the night.
Water tap were on the back of the electric hook up - which were hidden in the bushes - didn't find until we went home

Local attractions

A converted mill on the banks of the Leven houses the Lakeland Motor Museum (five minutes’ drive), with a vast collection of vintage vehicles – from bicycles and scooters to motorcars, plus the Campbell Bluebird Exhibition, featuring several vehicles used by Donald Campbell during his speed-record breaking attempts. The kids might enjoy meeting Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail and other beloved characters at the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, in Bowness-on-Windermere (25 minutes). Here, they can also learn about the author and her conservation efforts, while across Windermere Lake is National Trust - Hill Top (25 minutes), the farmhouse she bought in 1905. National Trust - Sizergh (25 minutes) is a medieval property that’s been home to the same family for 800 years. During this time, they have accumulated a remarkable collection of portraits and decorative art objects. Stroll through the extensive grounds looking for butterflies and hawfinches.
