Camping at hayfield

  • Pop-up site at a friendly family farm five minutes from Ulverston
  • A five-minute drive to beach or safari zoo; 20 minutes to Windermere
  • Local pub and ice cream parlour within walking distance
If a spot just a few minutes away from both Ulverston and the Cumbria coast sounds like a good place to be (and it surely should…) then you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup at Camping at Hayfield. This pop-up site is part of a family farm, and it’s run by people who are keen on travelling and exploring who know a thing or two about what makes for a fab place to stay. It’s all about splendid simplicity here: facilities are limited to just portable toilets, so you can focus on the key elements of a peaceful stay (namely meeting the farm animals, checking out the gorgeous Lake District views and bonding over an evening by the barbecue or campfire…) Look out from the pitches and you’ll see rural views all around, with footpaths easily accessible for when you fancy getting out to see a bit more. Handily it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the local pub, and an even shorter one to an ice cream parlour. For more foodie options (including pubs, takeaways and supermarkets), it’s a five-minute drive up to Ulverston. A countryside site this may be, but as it’s not far from the A590 it’s also one that’s well placed for getting out and about. Some of the biggest sights in the Lake District National Park (including Windermere and Coniston Water) are about 20 minutes away by car, or you can get to Bardsea Beach or South Lakes Safari Zoo in about five minutes.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Where do I start…Fabulous from start to a short finish as storm Floris arrived and cut our stay short. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the owner Bev. She helped us decide where to set up and we chose the next field on top of the hill for the best views.
The site was very well set up, picnic tables, Porta loos and 2 showers which were nice and warm and free to use. There was sinks available to wash dishes.
Bevs husband was a great help, he unhitched my trailer for me and was on hand to hitch it back up. Very helpful and even kept an eye on us packing up to come and collect our rubbish. He even handpicked the spiders from the porta loo for the granddaughter after she came out and he asked if everything was okay, she told him no there’s spiders 🤣
The kids love the baby cows and goats and enjoyed watching them feed.
Very helpful pointing us towards the ice cream farm, which was defo worth a visit. And directions to the pub, again a beautiful pub with very friendly landlord.
Very peaceful place, not overcrowded and spotless. Couldn’t fault this place at all.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The views, the proximity to shops and a fantastic town, the owners

It really was a great stay!

Disliked First, I know it is a pop-up site, but a non-temp portalo would be nice. But that is it

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Absolutely fantastic , definitely one of the nicest pitch ups we’ve done.
I go camping each year with my son and we have both said, even though we were there for a week, we could have stayed longer.
Beverly and Anth are incredibly wonderful hosts. The facilities are spot on, all clean and definitely everything we needed.
Showers and washing up areas are great and the trailer with hot/cold drinks and snacks that you could purchase from them was a lovely touch.
There are two fields to choose from when pitching and plenty of room to spread out so you don’t need to pitch right next to each other.

Great to watch the pet goats in their pen/field and the Dexter Cows are beautiful to watch too.

10 minutes walk away is the best Ice cream farm (Cumbrian Cow) and you are a few minutes drive away from Ulverston. The local Stan Laural pub serves amazing food too which was great.

We had a fun filled week from a perfect base.

Thank you Beverly and Anth for being so kind and welcoming. We will definitely return xxx

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Best camping experience we’ve ever had. Bev and her husband are absolute beautiful souls! Couldn’t do enough for you to ensure everyone had the best time - from local activity recommendations to lifts to the pub. All the children on the site loved the animals and playing on the gator etc. such a wholesome place and was safe to let them run around. Facilities were immaculately clean and the little “shop” was a nice touch too. So much pitch space, no silly rules, fire pits, indulgently relaxing. Love, love, love. This is how camping should be. We will be back very soon! ❤️

Disliked Having to go home!

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Hayfield is a great campsite equipped with everything you need to have an off grid back to basics break. The owners are very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable of the local area.
The campsite is conveniently located to an ice cream parlour, shops, the beach and many other tourist attractions.
We stayed with a couple of other families and were made to feel very welcome. We would love to stay again and highly recommend Hayfield.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Beautiful, quiet location with easy access to the south Lake District. Plenty of space to spread out so no worrying about disturbing neighbours or vice versa. Our toddler loved seeing the tractor drive through the field and the lovely campsite owners were even kind enough to give him a ride! We didn’t use the facilities much as were self contained in our camper van but they looked clean and well cared for.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Amy, glad you had a lovely time, Farmer Anth remembers your husband and son in the tractor
