What customers say

Pennine View: spotless facilities, helpful staff, great for walks. The Engine Shed pub and food are a hit! Spacious pitches, many want to return. Watch for occasional road noise and some facilities need an update.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (six person)

Liked The camp is beautiful and in a great location. Well maintained and the shed bar on site is fantastic.

Disliked My only slight criticism I would have is more control on noise on a night would be great ie so noise checks from management as we were near a few people camped with dogs and the barking all night was relentless. If someone was on site to have a word with later it would help. But not a deal breaker at all.

Powered grass tent campsite (two person)

Liked I loved everything about Pennine View Caravan Park. I was a single female camper and booked a tent pitch with electric hookup for 7 nights. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The showers were the best I have ever experienced and other campers frequently echoed this, saying they were better than most hotels. For once I didn't have to shower with my spine pressed against the button! There was no limit to the time allowed and the water was piping hot with good pressure. The hairdryers were great too! The best thing for me was the cabin with electric kettle, toaster, table & chairs and kitchen utensils. It made it quick and easy to make a cup of tea and piece of toast without having to stand out in the rain over the camping stove. It was also a lovely community area where people came and went and were always happy to have a chat and share stories. Everyone was extremely friendly. The location was also great. There are waterfalls right next door and a circular viaduct walk. The Yorkshire Dales are a couple of mins drive up the road and Windermere is about 45 mins away. The scenery surrounding the site is stunning and there is a steam museum opposite. You can also get on the Carlisle to Settle railway line at Kirby Stephen Station, a lovely relaxing way to spend a day. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!!

Disliked Nothing not to like!

Liked Excellent level pitch great size and nice grass. Facilities all good especially showers great pressure and no timers. There is a bar and small food area called The Engine Shed which is very roomy nice bar and different food menus on during week open from 4-10 pm. Decent walks around from the site and not a bad little town with plenty of cafes and restaurants and bars.

Liked Beautiful little site. The onsite bar is stunning, river walk was great for the kids to go down and play in the river too!
Only a 15 min walk into town, so close enough but not so close.

Disliked I guess for a family park, there could be more for little ones to do onsite. But for a small site the little park wasn’t unreasonable.

Local attractions

Walking routes start from the site and crisscross all over the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, around local town Kirkby Stephen, up the Howgill Fells and through the countryside of the Eden Valley. To see it all from way up high, paragliding is available within half a mile of Pennine View. The nearby River Eden has some spectacular fishing, all accessible a mile from the site. Wild brown trout are the main haul on the stretch of river managed by the Kirkby Stephen & District Angling Association, whose members are happy to take visitors out along the water (remember you'll need a fishing permit). Day tickets are available, with free fishing for under-18s. Horse riding can be had four miles away, and the mountain bike trails in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty within five. The waters, boating and miles more walks of the Lake District National Park are 10 miles away. If you want to see how folk have lived in the area throughout the centuries, the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes is a good place to start; happily, the town is home to the Wensleydale Creamery too.
