  • Cosy dog-friendly glamping pods 15 minutes' drive from Kendal
  • Between Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, with easy motorway access
  • Ensuite bathroom, kitchen and firepit for each pod
‘In the sticks’ is a very apt name for Pods in the Sticks – this Cumbria countryside location is tucked away between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District national parks, so it’s surrounded by some of the country’s finest rural scenery. With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that the views from this site are very lovely, looking up to the fells that lend their names to the pods. The pods are nicely spaced around the site and tucked away to give a sense of peace and privacy – just the thing for a nice relaxing rural break. Each pod has its own outdoor area with a patio, firepit and outdoor seating for a morning coffee/evening tipple with a view. Inside, the cosy pods have been packed with useful things – each one has its own kitchen area, ensuite bathroom and dining table as well as a double bed and a double sofa bed. Bed linen, towels and firewood are all provided to keep things easy, and there’s heating to make sure it’s all nice and toasty even on cooler days. Prefer a dog to keep your feet warm? You’re welcome to bring yours along for a stay here. Getting out for walks and bike rides is easy around here, as you can access paths just outside the site or find major trails like the Dales Way close by. For a change of scenery (and some shopping), you can get to Kendal with a 15-minute drive. Despite the very rural location, this site is easily accessed from Junction 37 of the M6 (about 10 minutes’ drive) so it’s a handy spot for a stopover or a quick weekend escape.

Local attractions

For walks, you’ll have the choice of going west into the Lake District National Park – perhaps to Windermere (half an hour’s drive) or Ambleside (40 minutes) – or east into the Yorkshire Dales for Cautley Spout waterfall or the trails to Ruskin’s View from Kirkby Lonsdale (both half an hour). The site owners can tip you off about more local trails too. This area is packed with historic attractions as well – a couple of favourites are the castle and museum in Kendal (15 minutes), National Trust - Sizergh (20 minutes), Levens Hall (25 minutes) and World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (35 minutes). For family outings, look to the likes of Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (25 minutes), Lakeland Maze Farm Park (25 minutes) and the excellent adventure playground and other outdoor activities at Brockhole on Windermere (half an hour). A day in Ingleton (35 minutes) is a good option too, for a walk on the waterfalls trail and a dip into the underground scenery at White Scar Cave.
