  • Peaceful spot on the edge of Dufton Ghyll in the Eden Valley
  • A 10-minute drive to Appleby-in-Westmorland; 25 mins to Pooley Bridge
  • Access to Pennine Way and other walking trails direct from the site
Hidden it may be, but well worth seeking out… because Hidden Corner is actually in a rather fine location for a break in the Cumbria countryside. This scenic spot is tucked away in meadows in the Eden Valley, a little way from the village of Long Marton and about 10 minutes’ drive from Appleby-in-Westmorland. It’s the kind of peaceful place where you’ll have cows and horses as neighbours, a pond on site and the outline of the Lake District fells as your backdrop – but you’ll also have a pub about 10 minutes’ walk away. Getting out to see more of the rural surroundings is straightforward from this site on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – head straight out to cross a six-arch sandstone viaduct over Trout Beck and along a private footpath that takes you along to Dufton Ghyll. Other footpaths head out through the Ghyll and on to the Pennine Way and High Cup Nick. Once you’ve been out and explored thoroughly, you’ll be coming back to a place that favours the simple things in life – the owners have installed compost loos but that’s pretty much it on the facilities front. You’re welcome to bring a barbecue along though, and dogs are allowed on site too (happily, as they’ll no doubt enjoy the prospect of all those walks too…)

Bracken bell tent

Liked: I loved this place , it was so relaxing and just what we were looking for. Pubs close by had amazing food. The public pathed walks we did were lovely.

Disliked: The only thing I would say is that it's very very dark at night, no lighting at all on site. Unable to even find my way to the toilet. If there were more lights around I would of felt alot safer as just struggled to relax in the evening due to not being able to see anywhere around us.

From the manager: The pubs are great aren't they!Nice to hear you did some exploring. We do have solar lights around the loo, but we try to keep a low impact on the area where people camp and our surroundings. Fire pits and night skies is our vibe :-)

Just wow !!!!

Ferns primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Barbara was lovely and offered us a really warm welcome. She was also really helpful after we called for directions prior to arrival.

There are plenty of spaces between the pitches and they are well kept. You can also hire fire pits and the pot wash was also really handy too!

Hidden Corner is perfect for a rural stay away from all the hustle and bustle with some stunning scenery. However, Appleby itself is only a 15 minute drive away with plenty of shops/amenities. There are also 2 nice pubs that offer food within a 10 minute walk from the camp. Would definitely return for a nice, relaxing stay!

From the manager: Happy that you liked the pitches and sounds like you found the pubs! Hopefully see you again one day, thank you!

Roe Deer primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Peace and quiet. Spacious car park.
Nice wedding venue

Disliked: Difficult to find but apparently signage being produced - what three words navigation would have helped.
Very expensive at £25/ night in campervan for limited facilities- a tap in the gazebo and area to charge a phone/ iPad. I would normally pay no more than £10 for a parking spot in a carpark.
No bins/ grey or black waste disposal points. No electric hook up but ok for one night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: What 3 Words are being added to our profile on Pitch Up as we understand Postcodes tend to cover a wide area in a rural location such as ours, however there are always friendly locals/ businesses to point you in the right direction if the sat nav has other ideas. Our facilities are clearly written on our Pitch up page for all to see prior to booking. We have bins on site next to the compost loo with recycling options too. There’s no electric hook up as the site that was booked is called “ Roe Deer non-electric grass and gravel”. Our price reflects that we’re situated in a peaceful corner by a wildlife pond, overlooking private meadows for all to enjoy, next to a Ghyll on a family farm with a very …relaxed.. vibe… We’re certainly not a £10 car park.
