  • Dog-friendly shepherd’s hut on a farm 10 minutes’ drive from Knutsford
  • Jodrell Bank UNESCO site 15 minutes’ drive and Chester Zoo 45 minutes
  • Well-equipped kitchen and woodburner; pubs and a shop 15 minutes’ walk
Found on a Cheshire sheep farm 10 minutes’ drive from the buzzy little town of Knutsford, Greenfields Campsite is a top choice for anyone wanting to combine a cosy holiday in a wooden shepherd’s hut with views over the surrounding farmland. Prettily done up with a rural theme, the hut has a well-equipped kitchen (all the basics and more are there), bunk beds for sleeping and a bathroom with shower. Outside there’s covered decking for chilling, watching the sheep (and lambs in spring) in neighbouring fields and admiring the sunset on clear days. The village of Lower Peover (two minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ walk) has a handy shop and two pubs serving excellent food and beers. You can also source picnic treats from the handy village shop in Goostrey (10 minutes). Knutsford is the spot for nosing around trendy boutiques, and it’s got more than its fair share of pubs and cafés if you fancy a night out. Dogs are permitted – in fact, they get their own welcome pack of treats – while kids get complimentary marshmallows to roast over the campfire (logs and firelighters are available to buy on site).

Family-run site praised for friendly owners, spacious pitches & clean facilities. Campfires are a hit (marshmallows!). Mostly peaceful despite distant highway hum. Great for families & quiet escapes. Consistent quality & thoughtful touches win regulars over.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked An excellent campsite. The entire site is flat. Very child and dog friendly - you camp around the outside of the field and kids play in the middle - you can see where they are from anywhere in the field. The owners are lovely and easy to contact if you have any questions. Pre arrival text message is a nice touch. Albie the tup is a thing of beauty and goes down very well with the kids. Don't let the photos of the toilets and showers (in horse & cattle trailers) put you off - these are some of the best facilities we've come across at a campsite, and spotlessly clean. Fires are a nice touch, especially when it's dusk and you can see all the other campers sat around their fire. Pub is within walking distance too. Although not on the flight path, you can see the planes setting off from Manchester Airport - if sitting on Flightradar24 is your thing, you'll be in your element. Not always guaranteed at campsites, phone signal is a welcome constant 4G and 5G. Very handy location if you're visiting one of the many Cheshire attractions.

Disliked Due to the sites close proximity to the M6 motorway, you can here it at night. If you're a lighter sleeper, it's something to be aware of.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely spacious pitch, quiet site, huge central space for kids to play, sports etc. Reasonable cost for firewood, excellent included firepit. Would recommend the 2 local pubs. Walk to the Tree of Imagination and the pub there has interesting WW2 history and excellent food and beer garden. Owners friendly. Loved the quirky toilet and shower facilities. Good value for money - prices seemed fair when everyone else seems to be putting theirs up!

Disliked Nothing to dislike

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely well maintained site. We loved the designated fire pits and the free marshmallows! The lay out of the site in a horse shoe shape means there’s a lovely central open area for children to play. The toilets and showers are very clean and the shower heated up very quickly. The owners were very friendly coming when we they came over with the firewood and marshmallows and made us feel very welcome.

Disliked The only potential downside is the noise from the motorway traffic. This was more noticeable than I anticipated but I was fully aware prior to booking that the motorway is close to the site. It would not put me off staying again. On the flip side this means the camp site is easy to access. Just something to keep in mind for those wanting complete silence.
