  • Quiet site on a Yorkshire hill farm with views over Swinsty Reservoir
  • Walk to two reservoirs; 15 minutes’ drive from Brimham Rocks
  • Barbecues are permitted; walk to a country pub and public footpaths
The sweeping views of Swinsty Reservoir at this Yorkshire hill farm are really something… and handily for you, there’s a quiet site with well-maintained grassy pitches where it’s possible to soak them in day and night. Set within the Yorkshire Dales, Swinsty View has public footpaths that will take you to Swinsty Reservoir, Fewston Reservoir and the wider Washburn Valley in a jiffy. Don’t forget your country pubs either – the farm is also walking distance of a popular country pub serving fab food and great pints. As it’s just 25 minutes’ walk away, schedule yourself for a post-hike pub lunch if you wish. If you’d rather sort out your own dinners and lunches, barbecues are permitted on site as long as they’re kept under control and all is waste disposed of. In the way of other facilities, the pitches have access to portable toilets and washing-up facilities.

Local attractions

After an endless supply of activities in the outdoors? Continue your streak of outdoor activities in Stainburn Forest (25 minutes’ walk), which is known for its short and technical mountain biking trails and birds like red kites and woodpeckers. Get your hiking boots or trainers strapped on and head for the National Trust site of Brimham Rocks (15 minutes) for a good walk and a scamper. At this Site of Special Scientific Interest, there are stunning views of the moors from millions-of-years-old rock formations. The stunning Stump Cross Caverns (20 minutes) are just as impressive. The limestone cave system was formed by underground rivers. Keep an eye out for fossils and rocks in the shape of meat hanging from a butchers’ shop. If you’re keen to swap the dirt tracks for the cobbles too, make your way to Otley (15 minutes). Independent shops such as antiques or pubs serving popular pork pies are on-hand, as are food tours. Tour de Yorkshire cycling routes are accessible from here should you want to time a visit to a coffee shop before or after your ride.

What customers say

A peaceful, remote, back-to-basics wild camping experience with great views and wildlife. Campers loved the quiet, clean portaloos, and farm animals. Recent upgrades add running water & a mowed field. Some found facilities limited & terrain hilly, but the price is fair.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful location

Disliked The whole field was covered in sheep poo. If you had children, they wouldn't be able to olay in the field. A very small and dirty wash station. Water tap not connected to water supply. Had to go to the farm house to ask for water. Cost £40 for 2 tents and very little facilities
