  • Dog-friendly site on the River Worth, with access to the Pennine Way
  • In Brontë country, two miles from Haworth’s Brontë Parsonage Museum
  • Excellent walks to Hebden Bridge; a five-minute walk to a pub
Always up for a good long walk or a getaway in an area packed with literary history? If your answer is yes – to both or either question – get your bags packed and make your way to Ponden Mill in West Yorkshire. The Pennine Way, a long-distance national trail, crosses near the mill, and there’s also access to excellent walks to Hebden Bridge or further away. This site is also part of the area known as Brontë country, so you’ll be surrounded by the landscapes that inspired the Brontë sisters’ classics. To explore those literary connections, you could start by strolling the two miles to the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth (five minutes’ drive), although there are many more Brontë sites in the area – including the inspiration for ‘Wuthering Heights’ on the hill facing the mill. On site, you’ll be staying at a grassy woodland area alongside the River Worth. All pitches are generous in size, with most of them placed on flat, well-drained ground. There are excellent views too, as the site sits underneath Scar Top Chapel. Within 100 metres of the pitches, the main facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Dogs are also welcome. A pub is a five-minute walk away, and there are grocery stores in Haworth.

What customers say

This quiet rural campsite offers great access to moorland walks and the Bronte Way. Guests love the friendly hosts, peaceful vibe, and scenery. Facilities are basic but clean, though some mention limited showers/hot water. Despite dated amenities and occasional midges, many would return.

Pointy-Tenty 1 bedroom bell tent

Liked What is there NOT to like!!!!???? Absolutely nothing!!

We stayed in Pointy-Tenty for 2 nights this week, with our 2 dogs. Touched lucky with the weather too. Plenty of room in the tent, beds very comfortable. And almost totally silent with it being at the far end of the Ponden Mill site.

Grounds and gardens perfectly maintained by Katie, who's also the perfect person to go to for local information.

If you fancy a pub meal or a pint, it's less than a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Silent Inn. The amazingly beautiful town of Haworth is just a 10 minute drive away too, so if you love all-things Bronte, or heritage railways, you're in the perfect place.

So whether you want B&B accommodation in an 18th century mill, looking for somewhere to park your campervan, somewhere to pitch your tent, or to spend a night or 2 glamping in one of several unique and very quirky and different options, then Ponden Mill is 100% most definitely the place to go.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The area, the site owner was very friendly

Disliked The price of £25 plus £10 per night for electric hook up was over priced for 1 basic male toilet with 1 sink for washing and shaving and l shower for the whole site. The site is very basic and not for us, we booked 2 nights but stayed 1 only and moved on.

Local attractions

Climb aboard the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (10 minutes’ drive) at Haworth station, and travel south to Oxenhope or north to Keighley. The line and the surrounding area provide the background to several scenes in the 1970s film ‘The Railway Children’, and grown-ups might be overcome with nostalgia during the ride. In Keighley (20 minutes), Cliffe Castle was built as the home of a wealthy Victorian textile manufacturer. It is now a museum full of furniture, art and decorative objects, plus displays of fossils, taxidermy and vintage toys. The gardens include several water features, an aviary and a playground. On the outskirts of the market town of Hebden Bridge (20 minutes) is Hardcastle Crags, a National Trust nature site with dog-friendly woodland walks. Assorted ponds, streams and waterfalls are home to frogs and other aquatic beasties, while woodpeckers and curlews are just two of the resident bird species.
