  • Family-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod and family or friends, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

Liked: Pitches were lovely and spacious, the site as a whole was lovely and well kept a real shame about the issues below as we would have come back but won’t due to the below.

Disliked: Shower - didn’t even have enough hot water to rinse my body before it turned freezing, spoke to another guest and her shower was exactly the same, my teeth were chattering had to leave shampoo in my hair it was too cold to rinse. Electric is diabolical, couldn’t even boil a kettle let alone use caravan heating system it was a good job it wasn’t a cold weekend. Had to throw away a lot of food due to not being able to use cooking appliances without electric constantly tripping. As soon as we arrived 2 other pitches warned us about the electric so wasn’t just our 2 pitches with an issue. No hand drying facilities in the toilets Never saw the owners, had to ring to get pitch number, left 3 days later still no sign of owners

From the manager: Evening Maxine Thankyou for your review and it will be reviewed by our Management Team. If i could confirm a few off your issues raised in the review we can get these rectified to make sure all campers enjoy there stay at Mooreacres . Issue 1)" Shower did not have enough hot water for full shower ". There are 3 showers on site which are all electric showers so continuous hot water this is not a issue that has been raised to date but we will make sure one of our trusted tradesmen take a look to rectify this issues. Issue 2 ) " Electric is diabolical couldn't even boil a kettle. Let alone use heating system ." As explained by myself the pitches are on 10 amp fuses so can adequately power all appliances e.g TV , Fridge , toaster , Lights etc but will not allow multiple heaters / awning heaters to be run due to the large consumption of electricity these use . Issue 3)" No hand dryer in units " as explained when spoken to the main brick shower unit has infact got a hand dryer located next to the hand basin . Issue 4) "never saw the owners had to ring to get pitch allocation " We do have a Arrival procedure in place where you do have to call for pitch allocation as all pitches are adequately marked we have not experienced this to be a issue as until now . As for not seeing owners on site the are multiple checks throughout the day to check the site remains at the highest possible standard for our customers i recall speak to you in person when walking your Yellow Labrador . For a more accurate description of the site, please see below reviews. Whilst we try our best to Make sure all guests enjoy their stay And any extra request they have like in this case where the guest asked to be pitch next door to their friends which was accommodated and no issues was raised when spoken to on site By myself. Thank you

Bit of a walk to nearest pub about 20minutes, but would go back again.

Liked: Level site. Location to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Clean facilities.

Disliked: No cover for wash up area so washing up prices too much of a challenge in the pouring rain. You need storm pegs for pegging anything on the hard standing. No Wi-Fi but this was clearly communicated before booking.

Pleasant site fairly new and being developed further by the owners.

Liked: A level site relatively new. Wash and toilet facilities clean, but not very busy on site. Gravel and grass with electric and water supply which was handy to have. Great location for visiting the Yorkshire Wildlife Park which was less than 15 minutes drive away.

Disliked: Grass bit of the pitches was a bit narrow for our awning so guy ropes had to go into the gravel surface. You need strong steel pegs with you for this. No Wi-Fi as yet on site.

Liked: Excellent site very clean and well kept, toilet and shower facilities were very modern and clean. Very peaceful and close to local attractions l, friendly staff and welcome.

Disliked: Nothing really, we do usually book sites with a playgroup so that was missing from this site. But no issues as we were going to Yorkshire wildlife so kids had plenty to do in the area anyways:)

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
