  • Very small, quiet site on a working farm in Northumberland
  • A 15-minute drive from Northumberland Country Zoo or Cragside
  • Within 20 minutes' walk of village pubs, a café and a local shop
Christmas Farm is a very small site set in the grounds of a working family farm in rural Northumberland. A quiet part of one of the farm's paddocks has been fenced off for guests, where you'll have splendid views over the local countryside and plenty of fresh country air. If you're looking for lots of facilities and entertainment, this isn't the spot for you. This is a quiet site with a very small number of pitches, so the site asks that guests respect the peace of others who may be staying here. In the yard, there is a loo and a standpipe for water. The site is roughly a 20-minute walk from the small village of Longframlington, where amenities include two pubs, a café and a local shop. For some more shopping, along the high street or at the market, the historic market town of Morpeth is a 20-minute drive away from base and Alnwick is 15 minutes away. Christmas Farm is inland and has easy access to lots of scenic spots in the Coquet Valley, but the Northumberland Coast National Landscape can also be reached with a 20-minute drive or so. Set your sights on Northumberland National Park, 25 minutes' drive away, for hikes, cycling and starry skies. Its popular location, Kielder Water, is around an hour's drive away.

What customers say

Peaceful rural setting, lovely views. Guests loved the tranquil vibe & nearby attractions. But, long, uncut grass & rough entrance made access tricky; some left without staying.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We had a lovely stay at this peaceful, off-grid campsite. Beth was very friendly and welcoming, and it was exactly as described – wild camping with a toilet! The loo was clean and thoughtfully placed, and we were free to enjoy the beautiful meadow field with stunning views all around. We felt completely relaxed, surrounded by nature and fresh country air, with no one else in sight. A perfect escape.

A relaxing and peaceful wild camping spot with lovely views, great hospitality, and a real back-to-nature feel. Would definitely return.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Not as advertised… pictures are nothing at all like what the site shows, ground is very uneven and grass is overgrown, dried faeces all over the field, the toilets aren’t close to the tent pitches and you have to leave your car in a car park and walk everything over to a pitch. Host was rude, snapped at my partner… site states check out 11am latest however when we got there claimed we had to leave before 11 and she was dismissive of my child who as she showed us where to go said ‘thankyou’ repeatedly (he has additional needs and thought she couldn’t hear him) as she consistently ignored him multiple times until finally answering, site says ‘dogs allowed’ however fails to inform that this means they have to be tied to their leads at all times. We took the tent out of the car and went to set up and after looking around properly decided we wouldn’t be staying there and left booking another site 15 minutes away which was a whole lot better, upon looking at previous reviews we aren’t the only ones to feel this way and leave to stay somewhere else.

From the manager: You arrived after check in. You tried to sneak your dog in. You were rude to me because I asked for payment for the dog and you gave me lots of excuses. I asked if you’d like to drive on or leave your car in car park. You didn’t pay for your child but I over looked that because he obviously had special needs and was very difficult to understand. You asked when you had to check out and I told you by 11.
If you want more facilities book a camp site with more facilities. My pop up site clearly states the toilet is in the yard. It’s not very far to walk.
The views are amazing. It’s peaceful and beautiful. Obviously not for you.

Liked Owner seem friendly

Disliked Pop up or not U expect to be able to drive in to camping field with out risking your car been damaged with rubble at entrance and be able to see the ground would be helpful the grass should be at a reasonable level in tick season not past my knees it certainly dose not add to the ambience my tent would of disappeared we got back in the car and left in search for another campsite £20 flushed down the drain no views and if you park down the bottom of the field it miles away from toilet bare minimum to have a pop up site well I feel didn't even have that IV visited hundreds of sites this was the worst definitely will not be returning I stay on working farms before this was unbearable like been in a jungle if you lit your BBQ your would set field on fire not very safe at all so when we left found another site 10 min aways half the price and perfect quite beautiful sunsets and grass cut and flat ground and clean porter loos. And they where pop U site to so id look around

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beth was nice.

Disliked Sorry to say we didn’t stay in the end, on arrival Beth met us at the car and showed us where the drinking water was available from the tap and where the toilet was which I have to say is a fair distance from the field itself, she walked us down and showed us to the field, the drive to the field through the yard which was pretty rough with bits of slab and brick and really quite rough on the car, once we got in to the field we decided to leave as the grass was really quite high especially for the small tents we had, so was a waste of £40. It could state on the site the field is uncut just as a heads up as I wouldn’t have booked and wasted my money. Beth was nice just a shame about the field.

From the manager: I note that you say you are a sole traveler but then in your review you say we.
It’s a shame you didn’t voice your opinions when you were here. I have a small paddock that you could have used. However the field was very much enjoyed by the other guests. It’s a big field and I don’t cut it or mark out pitches because it’s only a 60 day site. It’s not far to the loo in the farm yard. The other guests didn’t find it difficult to get their cars in. I admit an open field with fabulous views isn’t for everyone. Some people like rows of set out pitches off a tarmac road.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The location is great, just outside of longframlington and in the country side.

Disliked Very rough ground driving into the field. The field had very long, dry grass. It was about 3 foot high. You could not see the ground as you drove on it. Our campervan was bouncing around on the uneven ground. Was not comfortable at all. To advertise that they allow barbecues and camp fires I would say is very dangerous as the field was completely covered in long, dry grass. We turned around and drove back out. We had already paid £20 (we decided to bring our miniature daschund with us and we're told we'd have to pay and extra £5 for the dog).
The site is in a great location. If the grass had been cut so you could see the ground it may have been appealing to stay.

From the manager: I’m sorry you were not happy with the field. All the other guests loved it and enjoyed their stay. I had other guests with dogs that had paid to bring them. It’s clear in the listing.
You also drove in in a huge motor home which I don’t take booking for. I have allocations for non electric tents and van pitches.
If you are looking for a smooth surface you should book onto a, much more expensive, camp site with facilities more suitable for your needs and type of vehicle.
I hope you found somewhere that could accommodate you.

Great rural location. Very pretty view and nice and peaceful.

Primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked What amazing scenery from the tent pitch field. I had sole use of the field so it was super peaceful - just the lambs bleating. I loved that it was a working farm - I was bought up on a farm so it was like a home from home. It was nice and out of the way. I stayed as I was visiting Cragside House which is about 15mins down the road. The owner was so lovely.

Disliked Nothing really.
