What customers say
This tidy campsite is lauded for its stunning lake setting & closeness to Castle Howard. Staff are friendly & helpful; facilities, incl. showers & toilets, are clean & pitches are spacious. Appreciated for its peace, though busy periods can mean crowded facilities & occasional noise. Limited phone signal & no shop are noted. Many would return.

Great stay
Primitive grass campsite
Liked Lovely campsite, friendly staff. It wasn’t very busy when we arrived so plenty of space to choose our pitch. Very helpful, as our pump was broken for the air beds and the staff lent us one to complete our set up. Toilets and showers were clean. Kitchen area to wash pots, and a freezer available for any ice packs. Lovely walk by the lake with a great view of the castle. Plenty of places a short drive away if you’re looking for days out.
Disliked Nothing

Liked Clean, quiet, bright, lovely little shop on site, Great larger shop at Castle Howard.
Disliked Wi-Fi is nonexistent, and phone signal is nearly nonexistent.

Disappointing and left early
Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite
Liked Flat pitch, good location , receptionist friendly
Disliked Toilets and facilities inadequate , smelly and filthy … same rubbish on floor immediately after ‘deep clean’ had been carried out… lack of any staff presence outside office hours means noisy at night … priority is clearly mobile home site . Shop is really only selling expensive Castle Howard products …eg £2.40 for 6 eggs that’s greed . First time after a month away in N Yorks did I feel need to lock van at night as campsite did not feel safe. Dog faeces on pitch, around loos and around site … yes that’s campers but who checks if no presence.

From the manager: What a lovely review Tina. It is great to read that you approved of Lakeside and will hopefully return for a longer stay.
Would return, but night time security would be helpful

Liked The staff were so friendly and helpful. The surroundings are lovely, the site has everything you need.
It is clean and tidy, shop well stocked snd close to everything we needed.
Disliked Some of the other campers left a lit to be desired. Digs roaming loose and doing tgeur business (i understand this hapoens, but at least clean it up) and one very noisy group.
Dhame as this was not the camps fault.

From the manager: Hello Vicky, We are saddened to learn that the behaviour of some campers was unacceptable during the Bank Holiday weekend. Selfish and disrepectful campers are not welcome here. We do appreciate being told. Any anonymous evidence is welcome and can help us to identify the group so that we can refuse them a pitch in the future and ask them to leave if necessary. Our security team do visit at night but we shall ask them to be extra viligent especially on busy weekends. A member of staff had approached them before they departed and found them to be exceedingly rude. It is not what anyone wants. Thankfully this is a rare occurance at Lakeside. On the positive side we are pleased that the site, the location and the team met your approval and we look forward to welcoming you back one day.
