  • Two-person glamping pods in landscaped gardens just outside York
  • Modern colourful pods with heating, wifi, tea and coffee
  • For cyclists and non-cyclists; secure bike lockers at each pod
You'll have a shrewd idea already about what this site is all about... York Holiday and Cycle Stop is a hugely stylish option for the saddle-weary – or for those seeking a serene and scenic base to use for Yorkshire sightseeing, riding and rambling. York is only 15 minutes' drive away or 45 minutes by bus; if you're cycling, pedal power should get you there within half an hour. This is the only site in the area dedicated to cyclists, with secure bike storage containers at each pod, a bike wash area and free wifi in all pods so you can plot your next route. It's a cinch to get onto main routes from here: the National Cycle Network 66 (the Way of the Roses), from England's west coast in Lancashire to the east coast near Hull, is less than a mile and a half away. (And if you're not a biker type? Non-cyclists are most welcome here too, so do mosey along to see what's on offer around the park and its region.) Take a look at the pics to see the pretty place you'll be making your pitstop in, among colourful landscaped grounds, trees and flowers, on a green and spacious park with swishly modern and well-equipped pods. All pods are warm and cosy in all weathers and have a kettle and free wifi. Outdoor seating, a barbecue area and a communal kitchen are all available for guests' use. Supplies can be sourced a couple of miles away in the local village of Dunnington, reachable, of course, by bike...

Local attractions

York, of course: the York Cycle Stop owners reckon it'll take most folk 20 to 30 minutes to pedal the five miles to York station, either via the National Cycle Network 66 or an alternative direct route. Once there, secure your bike where you fancy (around 1,000 cycle parking spots are around the city, half of these safely at York station), then set off to sightsee: popular spots include fab York Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the shops and market of the Shambles, York’s Chocolate Story and the National Railway Museum. If you're around in the evening (as you should be, York pubs are stellar), York ghost walks are a hoot. Outside York, drive for 20 minutes north to reach Castle Howard, the famed stately home of the Carlisle family for over 300 years and used as Brideshead in the UK production of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.
