Egremont Pines Caravaning and Camping: The pitches

General

  • Family-run site in a rural location with views of the Yorkshire Wolds
  • A 10-minute drive from Pocklington and 20 minutes from York
  • Spacious and level pitches; barbecue hut available for hire

Set in the green North Yorkshire countryside, Egremont Pines is a quiet family-run site with facilities and an environment geared towards families and couples looking for relaxed rural breaks.

David, Deanna and other members of the friendly site team will help you settle in at Egremont Pines and have plenty of insider info about the surrounding area. The site looks out onto the Yorkshire Wolds, a range of low-lying hills with a number of excellent walking routes. You may also spot some of the site's pedigree alpacas wandering about in neighbouring fields.

Site facilities include showers, toilets, a laundry room and a washing-up space, as well as a barbecue hut you can hire for celebrations, meals or special events. Barbecues can be set up elsewhere in the grounds of Egremont Pines, but please do your bit to keep the grass green by raising any flames far off the turf.

The historic market town of Pocklington is a 10-minute drive away, while the ancient city of York is about 20 minutes by road. Wilberfoss (five minutes) is even closer and makes a handy pit-stop if you're looking to call in at a local shop.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Wasn't anything to dislike. The pitches are all very level, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the facilities are some if the best we've come across and we're spotlessly clean but they are quite limited in number and on busy periods I would image there aren't enough of them. That said, we pretty much had the place to ourselves that weekend so this certainly wasn't an issue and there are plans to increase their numbers.

The kids were invited into the chicken coup and help feed the birds and collect eggs which really made their stay.

    Disliked:

There wasn't anything to dislike during our stay so nothing to wrire here.

The site was a short drive to York town centre which is very handy. We were welcomed to the site by the owner and he was very polite, and the site was tidy. The toilet block is basic but very clean. There was a BBQ hut which you can use, however we did use this on our stay, and there are Alpacas in a neighbouring field to look at, along with a chicken pen on entering the park. In the shared washing area there was a communal fridge too.

    Disliked:

As there are limited toilet facilities, there is an additional portaloo which we used once and avoided the rest of the time. On Google Maps / Apple Maps the postcode takes you right there, however our car satnav took us to the next street over, just bear in mind and check before you travel.

Local attractions

Stock up on snacks in the pretty village of Wilberfoss (five minutes' drive) before heading out into the Yorkshire Wolds, where there is an array of circular and linear walks, including the Yorkshire Wolds Way. Nearby Pocklington (10 minutes) may also be a popular option – it's home to a public leisure centre, an arts centre and Burnby Hall Gardens, where over 100 types of waterlily are on display in landscaped grounds.

For tales of dogfights and derring-do, set out for the Yorkshire Air Museum (a quarter of an hour), a pet-friendly aviation centre on the historic site of RAF Elvington. Other easily accessible attractions include the York Maze (15 minutes) – the UK's biggest, no less. If you'd rather limit your chances of getting lost, though, you could just as easily take a guided tour around York's storied city centre (20 minutes).

For more impressive old buildings, head to Castle Howard (30 minutes) with its farm shop, palatial manor and boating lake, or try Nunnington Hall (40 minutes), a National Trust-managed property with 450 years of history that's a bit more manageable in scale.

Must see

  • Air Museum (8.2 kilometers)
  • National Centre for Early Music (15.0 kilometers)
  • York Castle Museum (15.3 kilometers)
