Spend your evenings around the campfire
Each bell tent has its own allocated outdoor space, and is positioned to make the most of the views
18 acres of woodland and meadow to explore

  • Peaceful offgrid glamping site at a North Yorkshire rewilding project
  • In the Howardian Hills, a five-minute drive from Castle Howard
  • Off-grid bell tents with proper beds, barbecue and outdoor space
Ready to go off grid for a while? Eden Fold is a place where you can leave the emails and screen time behind and embrace a slower pace of life at a wildlife-filled rewilding project in North Yorkshire’s Howardian Hills National Landscape. Surrounded by wildflower-filled meadows and ancient woodland, the setting here may be wild but the accommodation is certainly not. You’ll be staying in a spacious and sturdy bell tent, each of which has its own outdoor space with seating, a barbecue and a firepit to help you make the most of your peaceful alfresco evenings. As an off-grid site there’s no mains electricity here and no wifi, but there’s a solar-powered USB charging point and you will usually be able to find mobile reception if you really want it. You’re highly encouraged to step away from the gadgets while you’re there though – perhaps wandering the woodland paths instead, borrowing a book or board game for a quiet afternoon or cosying up by the firepit to admire the starry skies. Plenty of useful touches have been provided in the tents: each one has a double bed (or two singles) plus a couple of optional futons for kids, along with a cooler box, a large water container and soft lighting for a cosy atmosphere. Shared facilities close by include compost toilets, gas-powered hot showers with eco-friendly toiletries, and drinking water. Heading out, there are a couple of pubs within five minutes’ drive, and some great places to eat and shop in Malton – North Yorkshire’s ‘food town’ is 15 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

Being on the edge of the Howardian Hills National Landscape and close to the North York Moors National Park, you’ll have plenty of options around for peaceful walks and bike rides. Those start very close to home, in fact, as you can pick up a trail from the site to Stittenham Hill and beyond. The Centenary Way and Ebor Way are also close by for longer walking days. If it’s gentle strolls that you’d prefer, plan trips to places like Yorkshire Lavender (10 minutes’ drive) or explore the grounds of Nunnington Hall (20 minutes) and the nearby Castle Howard (five minutes) – the latter with its a 120-acre arboretum next door. You may also like to consider heading to the coast for a blast of sea air in Whitby, Scarborough or Filey (all within an hour). While you’ve probably come to this area for the rural lifestyle, it’s worth taking a step back into urban life for some time in the excellent foodie town of Malton (15 minutes) and a wander around the always-fabulous city of York (25 minutes).
