  • Peaceful site 10 minutes’ drive from York city centre
  • Well-placed for a city break in a rural setting
  • Half an hour from Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Tired of spending your hols stuck in the car? At Crockey Hill Caravan Site, 10 minutes’ drive from York city centre in North Yorkshire, you can park up for a few days and let yourself forget where you put the keys – you won’t need them. Crockey Hill is well-placed for exploring this part of Yorkshire on two wheels: routes 65 and 66 of the National Cycle Network are easily accessible, both around 15 minutes’ cycle from the site – follow these to make your way to other national routes that crisscross the North Yorkshire countryside. Missing city life? You can catch the bus into York from the stop right outside the site entrance and wander the city streets, visiting York Minster, the National Railway Museum, a host of breweries and tons more. If you want to party the night away in the city bars and clubs, there are even late-night buses at weekends that’ll bring you back to base. Back on site, you can relax after your busy days and nights. Once you’ve worked up an appetite – or even if you’re just craving hangover food – you can pile up the barbecue with supplies from the nearby farm shop then chow down in peace and quiet. If you’d prefer a break from the cooking, there are plenty of restaurants, and bar-restaurants, nearby. The site has a drinking water tap and grey water and waste disposal points but please note there are no toilets or showers.

What customers say

A peaceful, well-kept grass site with spacious spots, perfect for exploring York via the nearby bus. Guests loved the friendly hosts, great info hut, and handy location for the city and outlet. Road noise and no washrooms were noted, but overall a quiet, accessible, good-value spot with excellent drainage.

From the manager: Pleasure to welcome you for a stop over stay. I am sorry to read that you disliked the fact we do not have a toilet block. I feel I should mention that we advertise this and we also point it out in all our booking confirmation emails. The last thing we want is for a guest to arrive and be disappointed that we dont have toilets - it is always better to book a site with the facilites you want. Kind regards Gina and Gary

Liked We booked this site on our way home from London as a stop off point and to explore/pub crawl around York. We love coming to York and now that we have stayed here, we would most definitely come back. Gina, welcomed us at the entrance and was very kind and helpful. We were able to drive up to fill our water tank at the tap and there are bins and waste disposal there too. There is also a shed with loads of information and leaflets. Very quite site and very handy to catch the bus (5 min walk) straight into York. Would highly recommend and is a very good price compared to other sites.

From the manager: Really appreciate your review and chuffed to read you plan to stay again. We have lots of returning customers who enjoy the combination of a city break in rural setting. Kind regards Gina and Gary

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (members only)

Liked Great site for York & Selsby via 415 bus route. Bus stops: Go through small gate turn left up to junction turn left again. For Selsby stay on near side of road bus stop approximately 500 yards. The bus to York: cross over to far side go left approximately 300 yards. Bus stop shelter is set back. It is out of sight of bus driver so keep a look out. Buses run every 20 minutes.
The site does get some road noise but not excessive. Evening it is quiet. There are plenty of rabbits in hedges, evening and early morning they come out to play.
The site has basic facilities: Electric hook ups, drinking water, bins, grey water and solids. A small area is set aside as a play area for children never went their as we are old folks. The site is accessed via a combination locked gate. Number is given on arrival. The pitches are flat, well manicured and generous in size. This site attracts international campers. There is an information hut on site with all attractions listed plus a lending library of dvd's and books.

Liked Easy access to site , owners friendly, great links to York city by bus. It is what it is a grass pitch with electric water and plenty of rabbits running around. Large pitches, Would stay again.

Disliked Grass area a little uneven but that's the rabbits digging 😁

Liked Lovely little site with LOTS of rabbits grazing & running around. Bus stop very close by with regular buses into York & back. Very quiet at night. Really enjoyed our 4 night stay, good value. York is fantastic!

Disliked A small issue, the grey waste hole is raised higher than motorhome taps, so difficult to empty into via a hose. A ground drain next to it would be easier.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The rabbits really do make themselves at home :) Thank you for the feedback about the grey waste, its certainly something we can look into. So pleased you really enjoyed your stay, we feel lucky to have such an amazing city on our doorstep. Kind regards Gina and Gary

Local attractions

Start your stay at Crockey Hill Caravan Site with a step back in time at the haunted Nunnington Hall or the spectacular Castle Howard (which eagle-eyed visitors may recognise as the setting for Brideshead Revisited), both within 40 minutes’ drive of the site. If you’re in need of a little retail therapy after all that (hard to look at the decadence of those old stately piles without wanting just a little of your own), you have options: the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet is less than five minutes from Crockey Hill, and you’re a bus trip or 10-minute drive from the shops of York (make sure to stop by the spectacular Shambles for souvenirs). Once you’ve burned a hole in your credit card, stick around York for the racecourse, Jorvik Viking Centre and York Dungeon, then set your mouth watering with a guided tour of the city’s cocoa-y goodness past at York’s Chocolate Story. Want to immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of unbridled nature instead? Make your way to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to follow riverbank footpaths, farmland trails and scenic bridleways, and be sure to stop into the highly recommended pubs, cafés and restaurants when you need to get your energy back.
