  • Well-kept, peaceful Yorkshire park five minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just five minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a café, bar and restaurant (opening days and times vary depending upon the season; there are reduced hours in low season) for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

What customers say

Well-kept site lauded for its prime spot, ideal for exploring Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay by foot, bike, or bus. Guests rave about roomy, level pitches, spotless facilities, and super friendly staff. On-site cafe and nearby pubs are big hits. A few noted tight pitches and extra cost for electricity.

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked very easy to book in all the paperwork was ready on arrival Emma really helpful and pleasant, We stopped on motor-van pitch 41 which was nice and level and close to the toilet/shower block, everything on site was very handy as well as the local bus services which was just a short walk way. The bus stops out side the Hare and Hounds pub and cost £3.00 to travel

Disliked it was quite when we visited the site 13th-16 April the male toilets and showers are limited and may/will struggle in peak times. I was unable to get a T.V. signal on pitch 41 for the T.V. but able to use wifi to watch Iplayer

Power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely site, spacious pitches great the pub cafe was open, food looks good and reasonably priced.
nice and clean showers .
Friendly staff.
Great location and a 5 minutes walk to bus routes to Whitby Scarborough and Robin hoods bay.
Been before and will return.

Disliked The metered electric can make the stay a bit expensive in the winter months on top of a reasonable site fee and a little off putting.

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked A lovely warm welcome from the owners who were very happy to help.
A big site that is well looked after and lots of walking paths. A big field for dogs to enjoy. We ate in the pub restaurant and the food was so nice and very good value.
Would definitely stay again.

Disliked The showers are a problem with the water stopping every few seconds and having to keep pushing the button for more water.
It's a shame that the children had to leave the pub at 9pm considering its a family friendly site there is nowhere else for children to go after 9pm

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Pitches weren’t great and the drive after the office is not at all appealing
That said? We enjoyed the position of this site for getting around what we wanted to see
The toilet block is very dated but it was clean and functional

Disliked The out he’s are not great. We had our Motorhome and had to ask for a new pitch. While it was a better area for us, the levelling was awful

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
