  • Quiet East Yorkshire pop-up site five minutes’ drive from Skipsea
  • Beverley Minster 25 minutes’ drive; RSPB Bempton Cliffs half an hour
  • Spacious dog-friendly grass pitches; two coarse fishing ponds on site
Combine a love of fishing with an East Yorkshire camping break designed to get back to basics and you’ve got Mill Pond, a nearly-wild pop-up site in Ulrome, five minutes’ drive from the North Sea beach at Skipsea. Spacious, well-kept and peaceful the level grass pitches might be, but they’re just five minutes by car from the local pub and there’s a shop in Skipsea (20 minutes’ walk). The historic town of Beverley (25 minutes’ drive) has mainstream stores as well as a top-notch selection of pubs, cafés and restaurants. The off-grid camping area sits on a vast field bordering two mixed-coarse fishing ponds that were established more than 30 years ago; you can buy day, evening or 24-hour tickets on site. If you need anything in the line of fishing tackle, you’ll probably find it at Westlands Angling in Sigglesthorne (15 minutes). Just not that into fishing? Head to the stunning beaches of East Yorkshire, including Hornsea and Barmston (both 10 minutes), where you can exercise yourselves and any four-legged companions, or follow public footpaths through scenic fields around the site. If you fancy a treat after your walk, head over to Mr Moo’s Ice Cream Parlour (five minutes); once you’ve bought your ice cream, take some time out to watch the dairy cows and calves grazing the fields.

What customers say

A peaceful, well-kept site with great views, especially of the pond. Flexible check-in/out and friendly hosts are a plus. Washrooms varied in cleanliness; fishing's offered but lake upkeep was questioned. Road noise is present but expected. Great value.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Found myself and my mum to be the only people there delightfully quiet camp site very clean and well maintained grounds, we didn’t make use of the toilets provided as we brought our own, therefore cannot comment on those. The sunset was lovely. We met the owner who came for a chat very friendly. Overall very nice happy quiet spot would book again if in the area. Excellent value for money!

Disliked It is close to a main road - this is something the owners couldn’t do anything about bar maybe planting more trees around the border perhaps but that isn’t a small undertaking

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely loved it went for chill time with daughter and dogs. View was amazing woke up to looking onto the pond . Nice and quiet. Farmer and son where both very welcoming. Porta toilets on site but no running water so make sure you take some with you . Not a problem for us we like the wild camping. Plenty of places to walk the dogs and lots of bird and wild life even a little mole my first time of seeing one up close . You also have an option to fish the two ponds at extra cost, with carp, tench and other fish .

Disliked Nothing

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely setting, nice quiet site, good location, great that timings for arrival and departure were flexible

Disliked One of the toilets was blocked which meant only one was available for use.

Not sure how well the fishing lakes are maintained-they didn’t appear well stocked, and the larger lake seemed to have once had pegs but quite overgrown.
