  • Quiet family-run touring park 15 minutes' walk from Withernsea
  • A 10-minute walk from a sandy beach and 40 minutes' drive from Hull
  • Fishing lake, miniature golf and licensed bar and restaurant
Wander over to the beach whenever the will takes you while staying at The Willows Holiday Park – this family-run park on the east Yorkshire coast is a straightforward 10-minute stroll from a splendid swathe of sand that stretches off into the distance for a good couple of miles. If that sounds like the sort of thing that might keep your kids and dogs very happy indeed, you’ll be pleased to hear that a warm welcome is extended to both at this park. At times when the kids aren’t engrossed in bucket and spade activities, there’s a play area and miniature golf course on site to keep them busy, with further good times available at the on-site licensed bar and restaurant. And it’s not just the beach that’s within easy ambling distance… the little seaside town of Withernsea is 15 minutes away on foot too, for shops, cafés, pubs and the obligatory fish and chip seaside suppers. Legs not up to the walk? There’s a bus stop just outside the park for even easier journeys. Sunny days could see you spending much of your time simply strolling back and forth from the seaside, or perhaps settling in for some leisurely time by the fishing lake on site. Dreary weather isn’t any form of disaster around here though, as the area’s packed with undercover activities, including Withernsea’s swimming pool and bowling alley and days out at the excellent The Deep aquarium in Hull (40 minutes’ drive away).

Liked: Nice clean and friendly site

Disliked: Very uneven pitches, advertised with fishing on site but this is not true. Was told their other site had a fishing pond but when we went to look it was fenced off.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite (large, maximum 8 metres)

Liked: Nice welcome. We had booked a grass pitch but asked if any hardstanding available and there was so we was able to swap easily. Lovely little park for the kids to play on whilst we set up. Was sunny whilst we was there and the pitch had the sun all day. Be gorgeous in the summer. Shower/ toilet block clean. Had to pay £20 cash which is refunded on leaving for key fob to get in/out main gate and x1 toilet block key.
It's was perfect place to try out our new caravan.

Disliked: Shower blocks were cold. All tiled and heating not on so we didn't use.

Local attractions

You’ll be straight off to the coast for starters, presumably – the lengthy beach lends itself well both to family days of paddles and playing in the sand, and to long walks to fill those lungs with sea air. If you’re intrigued by the birds that stop off for a breather on their long migratory journeys, set off for Spurn Point National Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ drive) to spy on what they get up to. Folk more fascinated by flying machines than flying birds can see a rare Blackburn Beverley plane at Fort Paull (25 minutes), a military museum that’s also got underground tunnels to explore. There’s another chance to go below ground in Holmpton (five minutes), home to a huge ex-RAF bunker. Swap underground for underwater with an outing to The Deep aquarium in Hull (40 minutes); the city’s also got a transport museum, maritime museum, car museum and dinosaur attraction to visit, and plenty of places to catch a film or a show.
