  • Popular and peaceful countryside site a short drive from York
  • On the Way of the Roses 170-mile coast to coast ride
  • Adults-only farm site; dogs and barbecues permitted
Seeking serenity in scenic countryside but get antsy if you’re not close to the bright lights? Hold that thought. City, countryside and a coast to coast cycle route are all features of very popular and very fab Yapham Holds Farmhouse Campsite, which will see sorted those who ditheringly fancy both urban and rural on one break. The farm is nicely rooted in rural North Yorkshire countryside that verges on the Yorkshire Wolds, but is a grand and easy drive into also very fab York (or an even simpler Park and Ride trip to York from the bus station near the farm in Pocklington, which has additional services to Beverly and Hull.) Bring your bike too if poss: Yapham Holds is right on the Way of the Roses 170-mile coast to coast ride from Morecambe to Bridlington and a couple of miles from the six cycle routes weaving around the countryside from the nearby market town of Pocklington. Yapham Holds is popular for its added little touches as well as its location, like flowers and handwash in the spotless loo and shower block and the knowledgeable welcome from hosts Rebecca and Patrick who can advise on all there is to do in the area, from museums to York ghost walks.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely peaceful clean site with spotless toilets, showers and washing up facilities. The grounds were beautifully kept with flowers and shrubs. The host met us personally and very kindly helped us out with our sailing dingy which we were towing behind the van . Would definitely go back.

Liked Absolutely idyllic campsite. Very quiet and peaceful. The bathrooms and pot wash areas are spotlessly clean. Very helpful, friendly staff. Nice to have a microwave and a communal fridge.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Everything, from the location, layout of the site, facilities provided, owners. One of the best sites we have stayed at in that area. We will definitely be back!

Disliked The only 'niggle' was the shower. It is fixed to the wall and very high up (I'm only 5ft).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Adult only site Love this site visited twice now once in glamping pods with a friend and this time in our campervan for husband Birthday break we had nice relaxed time easy check in met the the new owner we took our bikes and cycled around the lanes and into pocklington . Love the new washing up area and the new toilet block very well kept and clean

Disliked My Only grumble would be the shower head is very high up the wall so the water doesn’t hit you very well as if it would have been fitted at a lower height on the wall the water was nice and hot though

Local attractions

Pretty market town Pocklington is well-served with pubs, tearooms, restaurants and gift shops as well as supermarkets, and it's also got a skate park for guests travelling with youngsters or who want to revisit their childhood roots/skinned elbows. More placid but also very impressive pursuits lurk among the lily ponds and lakes of lovely Burnby Hall Gardens just outside Pocklington: the UK’s national collection of hardy water lilies lives here, but kids will likely be more open-mouthed among the giant fish that dwell in the gardens’ two lakes and take food directly from the fingers of awestruck guests. Step into the Stewart Museum afterwards for a look at the collections of former hall owner Major Percy Stewart’s eight grand tours in the early twentieth century – lucky old Major S crossed every continent on his travels and hauled back quite the collection of artefacts, many of which are now on display. North Yorkshire, York and surroundings are top spots for holidaymakers who like historical houses and museums; outside York, award-winning Eden Camp on a former POW camp near Malton tells many tales of World War II, and both Harrogate and Leeds, around an hour’s drive away from Yapham Holds, are crammed with historical highlights. In York, hang out with the Vikings at the Jorvik Centre or take a wander around the National Railway Museum or the Yorkshire Air Museum on Halifax Way, the biggest independent air museum in the country. And surely it’s essential to see York Minster and York Castle Museum too…? Fifteen miles north, eighteenth-century Castle Howard in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a right royal day out by bus from York’s Station Avenue or by train from the main station. Towards Hull, dive into another topping attraction at award-winning marine centre and aquarium The Deep at Sammy’s Point, where seven species of shark swim among the thousands of sea critters in the aquarium tanks.
