Fancy camping next-door to a medieval monument? You can do just that at Barff Hill Farm. At this arable and livestock farm halfway between the historic towns of Beverley and Driffield the camping field neighbours Barff Hill, an ancient mound now grazed by sheep and cattle. In keeping with the historic nature of your camping spot, there’s plenty to spark your cultural interest hereabouts, from the Gothic minster in Beverley (20 minutes’ drive) to the Elizabethan grandeur of Burton Agnes Hall (30 minutes). If you’d rather be out and about in nature, there’s fishing and boating at Hornsea Mere (30 minutes), and you might get lucky in spotting whales and dolphins on boat cruises from Bridlington (40 minutes) harbour. To be absolutely certain of seeing some wildlife, head for The Deep in Hull (45 minutes), where the kids can feed clownfish and listen to keeper talks. Talking of the kids, pack them into the car and treat them to a day on the beach at Hornsea (30 minutes), or breezy walks up to Flamborough Lighthouse (50 minutes) for North Sea views. Back at base, minimal facilities include portable toilets, mains water and recycling bins. There are a couple of pubs and a takeaway in Molescroft (10 minutes) village, and a much greater choice of bars and restaurants in Beverley itself.
