Flowering trees in the meadow

  • Family-friendly secure site in meadows near Woodbridge, Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Sutton Hoo; 25 minutes to Felixstowe beach
  • Dogs are welcome; five minutes’ walk to a pub
How about a Suffolk break at a spot with masses of room for kids and dogs to run around safely? A break on 4.5 acres of secluded meadow surrounded by mature trees? Dan’s Meadow is a small family-run site accessed by a tree-lined driveway with a locked gateway for extra security. It’s close to the historic riverside town of Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive), in the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, so there are lots of coastal walks and bike rides to discover (most seem to include pub stops). If you’re bringing dogs, there are riverside walks direct from the site too – the friendly owners are happy to suggest touring and exploring ideas for you if you want to go further afield. Family-centric on-site facilities include a modern loo and shower block. There’s also a utility room with hot and cold running water and a communal fridge-freezer. Barbecues are permitted on site, and there’s plenty of room for sitting around the fire and relaxing with a glass of wine as you eat. If you prefer an evening stroll, there’s a warm welcome at the local pub (five minutes’ walk), and there’s a takeaway nearby too.

What customers say

Peaceful, well-kept site with great staff. Clean facilities, spacious pitches, and nice walks (especially for dogs). Good base for exploring. Some road/train noise and small shower stalls noted. Not all pitches have Wi-Fi. Many want to return.

Liked Lovely owners, lovely site with a back to basics feel. We were in the rally field which was lovely and spacious with gorgeous views. Clean and decent facilities (little tight when taking a small person in with you to shower - just be prepared to get as wet as them 😂. ) There is a communal fridge - didn’t realise that till the morning we were leaving - so good of you’re not on hook up!

Disliked Nothing - was a lovely few days away.

Liked A cracking site. Entry could not be easier, quiet probably due to time of year. Could hardly hear road, and the odd train in the distance was no trouble. Will definitely return. Toilets, and showers clean and warm.

Liked Lovely site and well maintained. The owners were kind enough to lend us some tent pegs for the awning as we hadn't brought enough!! Thank you so much you saved us -as it was a blowy weekend!
We had hoped to walk to the pub but it was October so a bit dark and the road has no pavement - unless there is a back way - we couldn't find it. However we had a nice time just relaxing on site with the dog.

From the manager: Hi Emma,

Thank you for leaving us a review. Unfortunately there is only one way into the Red Lion Pub and that is along the road.
Hope this didn't effect your stay to much.

Kylie

Liked What a lovely little site, showers and toilets were clean and kept tidy, very peaceful and a good field to walk the dog around. We were only there for a few nights, we walked 5 min to the pub Friday for dinner and was spoilt for choice and popped in for a drink Saturday,Take a torch as its quite dark on the entrance to the pitch. Met Andrew the owner, lovely gentleman. Greated me by name which I thought was very nice. We will definitely be back.

Local attractions

Suffolk has much in the way of history to discover, from walks along fortified walls at majestic Framlingham Castle or the towering keep and maze of underground passages at Orford Castle (both 25 minutes’ drive). And of course one of the big-hitting attractions in these parts is the Anglo-Saxon burial treasures at Sutton Hoo (20 minutes), all gloriously displayed in a National Trust-owned exhibition. Many local countryside walks and cycle routes include pub stops, and you can play golf or take to horseback to ride through local woodlands within a half-hour’s drive. The odd rainy day is taken care of with a swimming pool and cinema in Ipswich (20 minutes). The seaside town of Felixstowe (25 minutes) is a great day trip for splashing around off the sandy beach or checking out the arcades along the pier, while Flatford Mill (40 minutes) sits in gorgeous countryside in Constable Country and is a popular spot for walks along the River Stour and in Dedham Vale.
